Several continuing efforts are being made through individual and group meetings — and through faculty retreats — to encourage research, scholarship and creative activities.

  • The archives of the Center for Western Studies (CWS) constitute a vast resource for scholarly endeavor on topics related to the Northern Plains region of the American West, especially early contact between the Christian Church and Native American peoples. Through the Faculty-Student Research Award, the CWS offers an annual $2,000 award to Augustana faculty to conduct research using these collections and $500 to a student assistant.   • The Mellon Fund at Augustana University was established with grant monies from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in 1985 to encourage lectureships co-sponsored by the Library Associates and the Humanities Division. The purpose of this fund is to support Augustana's efforts to strengthen the humanities in the region through a Visiting Humanities Lecturer Program. Deadline: September 2020.
