  • September 2016:
  • January - February 2016:
    • Phase I nears completion and staff has been working to place and move equipment ahead of the first day of classes in February.
    • Work continues on the lower level.
    • Original, remaining classrooms and offices are being vacated in preparation for phase II work.
  • September - October 2015:
    • Most rough grading has been completed on the south side of the new wing.
    • Storm sewer installation continues at the northwest corner of the project (north of GSC). Some storm sewer has been installed on the west side.
    • Greenhouse construction continues.
    • Aluminum glazing frames are complete on the south face of the new wing. Glass installation is nearly complete.
    • South facing windows are installed on the north wing and approximately half of the windows on the north face.
    • The installation of the aluminum glazing frames on the west side of the “Link” is nearly complete.
    • Most of the floors in the new wing (Level 2) have been polished and covered for protection.
    • Most of the stud framing and drywall hanging in the new wing and the west wing addition is complete.
    • All of the stairways have stair structures installed.
    • Steel stud framing is nearly complete in the “Link."
    • North wing, level 3: steel stud framing and drywall hanging is 95 percent complete. Level 2 framing: 80 percent complete.
    • The north wing re-roof is nearly complete.
    • The mason is laying block on level 1 of the west wing.
    • Framed walls are up on the new slab on level 1.
    • Growth chambers have been located on level 1 of the new west wing.
  • July - August 2015:
    • Brick veneer is 70 percent complete.
    • Curtain wall framing is 80 percent complete on the south face of the new wing.
    • Trellis framing at the east end is complete.
    • Approximately 80 percent of drywall is hung on level 2 of the new wing and approximately 40 percent on level 3.
    • Structural steel framing behind the curtain wall has been painted. Drywall painting of the metal deck and duct work is approximately 30 percent complete.
    • Window glazing has begun on the north side of the new wing.
    • Roofing is being installed on the west and north wing additions.
    • Installation began on the concrete-filled steel structure for the stair system in the west wing.
    • West entrance exterior walls and elevated floors have been removed.
    • Most of the demolition work has been completed in the north wing.
    • The team is laying brick on the west end of the new wing.
    • Installation of aluminum curtain wall frames continues on the south face of the new wing.
    • Connecting storm sewer piping from roof over the “Link."
    • Painting continues on metal deck duct work,structural frames, etc. on level 3 of the new wing.
    • Demolition of the stairwell structure on the east end of the north wing continues.
    • A custom angle truss for GSC 100 is being built.
    • Excavating work for underslab piping in level 1 of the west wing continues.
  • June 2015:
  • May 2015:
    • Exterior wall of addition have spray foam.
    • Concrete floors in the addition are complete. 
    • Interior walls on the addition is about 90 percent framed.
    • Canopy steel in southwest is about 80 percent done.
  • April 2015:
    • Exterior walls on the new wing framed and sheathed.
    • Interior wall framed on level three of the addition.
    • Roof and floor decking installed in new wing connection at southwest side.
    • Roof trellis steel installed between the north wing penthouses.
  • March 2015:
    • Precast wall panels erected on southwest and northeast entrances.
    • Third level floor slab poured.
    • Concrete removed from lower level of west wing for underground plumbing and electrical installations.
  • January-February 2015:
    • The masonry walls of the east stairwell on the new addition are complete.
    • Structural steel work on the new addition is in progress. Columns and beams have been erected for about two-thirds of the new wing.
    • Footing and foundation work continues on the south end of the project, near the greenhouse and mechanical yard. Foundation work should be completed next month in time for the arrival of pre-cast concrete wall panels.  
    • Demolition work on level one of the west wing is nearly complete. Electrical and mechanical work is beginning in that area.
  • November 2014:
    • Level two addition footing and foundation work is nearing completion.
    • Level one addition footing and foundation work will begin mid-month.
    • Structural steel work is scheduled to begin early next year.
  • October 2014: Concrete footing and foundation installments are scheduled to begin.
  • September 28, 2014: A Ground Blessing for the Froiland Complex was held during Viking Days Worship. Later that day, the College hosted a Farewell Open House inside the existing Gilbert Science Center. View photos from Worship and the Open House.
  • September 15, 2014: Geo-pier work begins. Geopier technology strengthens soft soil and loose soil with dense, stiff, rock columns constructed by heavy equipment. crowd force, and vertical impact ramming.
