AU Vision 2030: Dr. Jeff Oakland

Six Aspirational Goals

The Augustana Board of Trustees approved six aspirational goals as part of Vision 2030. They are:

  • Adapt the academic structure of the university to most effectively support the liberal arts core, new graduate-degree programs, the performing and visual arts, and a professional school.
  • Grow total enrollment to at least 3,000 students.
  • Establish strategic academic scholarships that enhance affordability and diversity.
  • Transition to a Division I intercollegiate athletics conference.
  • Make dramatic improvements to the physical campus and IT infrastructure.
  • Increase substantially the university’s endowment and other financial resources to reach these goals.

Committee Charges

The steering committee charges summarize the focus and scope of work for each committee, respectively. The goals for each committee are summarized and can be downloaded.

Academics

Guided by the 2030 Vision as approved by the Augustana Board of Trustees, the Academics Steering Committee will work in consultation with faculty, staff, and community stakeholders to significantly elevate the university’s academic profile in ways that build on its long-standing pledge of excellence and dedication of embracing the liberal arts. Guided by these goals and an unwavering commitment to community-focused, experiential learning and rigorous research, the committee will identify new and vital academic structures, explore and evaluate innovative and timely educational programs to include potential professional schools, develop a premier program in the arts, and enhance and embolden each of these initiatives by tapping into the transformational power of technology.

Enrollment and Strategic Scholarships

Guided by the 2030 Vision as approved by the Augustana Board of Trustees, the Enrollment and Strategic Scholarships Steering Committee will work in consultation with faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders to develop a comprehensive strategic plan to achieve Augustana University’s goal to grow and support enrollment of 3,000+ students – both undergraduate and graduate students – and to create and implement strategic scholarships, particularly those to help assist underserved and diverse students.

Athletics

Guided by the 2030 Vision as approved by the Augustana Board of Trustees, the Athletics Steering Committee will work in consultation with campus partners to prepare for the transformational move of reclassifying Augustana Athletics to NCAA Division I competition. The committee will provide guidance to maintain athletic and academic excellence to recruit and retain exceptional student-athletes, enhance the student-athlete experience to position them for a lifetime of growth and success, and engage the Sioux Falls community to enthusiastically embrace Augustana University as the hometown team.

Physical Campus and IT

Guided by the 2030 Vision as approved by the Augustana Board of Trustees, the Physical Campus and IT Steering Committee will advocate for the health, security, appearance, efficiency and sustainability of the physical campus. The committee will engage campus partners to assist in developing a comprehensive strategic plan to transform the university’s physical campus, including student housing, IT infrastructure and facility enhancements.
