The faculty shall consist of teachers with the ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Instructor, and any other designated by the President.

Job Title: Assistant Professor
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Biology

Augustana University, a selective, private, liberal arts institution in Sioux Falls, SD invites applications for a continuing-track Assistant Professor position in the Biology Department beginning September 2018. This primarily teaching position will encompass a variety of classes that augment current departmental offerings. Candidates are required have a Ph.D. in a biologically-related field by the start of the position.

Teaching Expectations: Courses will be assigned based on departmental needs from semester to semester, but will generally include introductory biology courses for majors, introductory biology courses for non-majors, and courses in human anatomy and physiology. The candidate’s expertise and interests can also shape class loads. While experience in any and all of these areas is a plus, a demonstrated dedication to undergraduate education, a willingness to be flexible, and a commitment to innovative and excellent teaching are the primary expectations for this position. Student academic advising is also an expectation as a part of the position. Summer teaching opportunities outside of the base teaching load (typically two lectures and four labs each semester and one lecture over the January term) are also available. Research is not an expectation for the position.

Salary: Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications; excellent fringe benefits are included.

Job Title: Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Chemistry

Augustana University seeks to fill a tenure-track position in Analytical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August, 2018.

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include teaching general and analytical chemistry to majors and non-majors, developing a research program with undergraduates, and service to the Augustana community. There is also potential for contributing to the teaching of First Year Seminar (FYS) for the shared core curriculum. Job Title: Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Music, Director of Orchestras
Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Music

Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a candidate for a full-time tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Music, Director of Orchestras in the Music Department beginning Fall 2018.

The Augustana Orchestra is recognized as a leading collegiate concert organization in the Midwest. It performs in premier concert halls and has appeared before state music educators' conferences with future goals including domestic and international touring.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate for this position will direct the Augustana Orchestras and be responsible for recruitment and retention of top quality string, wind, brass, and percussion students working in conjunction with the instrumental faculty. This dynamic candidate will also establish and maintain working relationships with state and regional instrumental teachers and high school orchestra directors. Additional responsibilities including applied instruction, academic courses (including our First-Year Seminar and SOPHIA-core curriculum) will be dependent upon the qualifications and expertise of the applicant and the needs of the department and University. The successful candidate should establish and maintain a regional and national profile within the profession and actively pursue a scholarly/creative agenda as it relates to the mission of a liberal arts University.

Qualifications: Candidates should possess a doctorate (or terminal degree) in conducting (ABD considered) and have demonstrated success in teaching and leading significant orchestra/string ensembles at the collegiate level and or public school experience as director of an established high school orchestra program. Additional consideration given to candidates with a strong secondary teaching area, including potential for teaching in the First-Year Seminar and SOPHIA-core curriculum.

Responsibilities: Potential courses would include elementary methods in reading, elementary methods in writing, and other courses related to the candidate’s area of specific expertise. Responsibilities: Primary teaching responsibilities would be in Augustana’s online graduate programming in Education. Undergraduate courses will be assigned based on the candidate’s background and expertise.  This faculty member will be expected to participate in online course development and revision.  Responsibilities also include recruiting and advising students; oversee the completion of final projects of graduate students; conducting an active research/publication agenda; providing service to the University and profession; engaging in program assessment and evaluation related to program standards; and developing ongoing collaborations with schools, agencies and the community.

Qualifications: Earned Doctorate or ABD in Special Education (with some preference given to those with education and/or experience in Early Childhood Special Education), or a related area; three years of successful teaching experience in special education; capacity to engage in research and service; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; and preferred teaching experience at the college/university level in both face to face and online courses.
