The faculty shall consist of teachers with the ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or Instructor, and any other designated by the President.

PositionTitle: Assistant/Associate Professor & Director of Curriculum

Department: Academic Affairs - Doctor of Physical Therapy

Augustana University seeks applications for a full-time, Director of Curriculum, a 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment at the level of Assistant, Associate or Professor for the developing hybrid Doctor of Physical (DPT) Program to start in June of 2021.  This accelerated two-year DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities that allow faculty members to live remote to Augustana University.  However, DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Sioux Falls, SD or Minneapolis, MN for designated time periods each semester.  The successful candidate will have teaching experience in higher education, a developed research and scholarship agenda, a record of community service, and a spirit of innovation to explore new teaching strategies in hybrid learning. 

Responsibilities: The Director of Curriculum is responsible for all program curricular planning, implementation, and review processes. Works directly with program faculty to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated curriculum based on foundational documents, best evidence, and contemporary clinical practice. Directs the evaluation of stakeholder input as part of ongoing curriculum review processes. Serves as Chair of Curriculum Committee, which serves as the primary coordinating body for all issues involving the DPT curriculum. This committee educates faculty regarding the overall curriculum and how each course contributes to the overall curricular design; responds to college policies, employer, student and graduate feedback, and accreditation standards; conducts regular meetings with the faculty related to the curriculum; and coordinates the Annual Curriculum Review.  Responsible for institutional curricular review within the Graduate Education Committee and Curriculum Council at the University. 

Qualifications: The optimal candidate should possess an understanding of higher education and contemporary physical therapy practice; knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy; and activity in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.  In addition, excellent communication and strong computer skills are required to meet the needs of our online didactic instructional format.

Individuals will possess a terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities (Ph.D., EdD, DSc, etc.) or Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT), with American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) or certification credentials appropriate for their teaching responsibilities.  This position is a non-tenure track with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications.  The candidate, if a physical therapist, must possess an active physical therapy license in their home state and be eligible for licensure in the states of South Dakota and Minnesota.

PositionTitle: Assistant or Associate Professor - Nursing

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Nursing

POSITION:  The Augustana University Nursing Department invites applications for tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor.  A research doctorate in nursing or related discipline is preferred, as is graduate level course work in mental health and/or adult/gero medical-surgical clinical specialty areas. Additional qualifications or interest in obtaining advanced practice certification as a CNS or NP is a plus. Support for research and completion of the research doctorate is available for eligible candidates. All eligible candidates will be considered.

DUTIES:  Successful applicants will demonstrate strong commitment to student-centered teaching excellence in an expanding nursing program within the context of the liberal arts. The learning environment offers state-of-the art active learning classrooms and high-fidelity simulation laboratories. Opportunity exists to shape new educational programming at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as the research core in nursing. Courses to be taught are dependent on specialization and interests of the successful applicant.

Augustana’s progressive undergraduate nursing program is recognized for the excellence of its graduates and for its experienced, creative, and engaging faculty.  The Department of Nursing has both a traditional baccalaureate program and an accelerated curriculum for students with BA/BS degrees. Position Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Social Work

The School of Education at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD, invites applicants for a full-time faculty position in Social Work beginning August 2021. This faculty member will become a member of the faculty within the Center for Behavioral Health and Wellness within the Sharon Lust School of Education. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: This faculty member will serve as the program director and will be responsible for program development as well as preparation for CSWE accreditation.  Successful applicants will demonstrate strong commitment to student-centered teaching excellence within the context of the liberal arts. Head Coach of Acrobatics & Tumbling

Augustana University (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for a Head Coach for Acrobatics & Tumbling position.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee day-to-day program administration.
  • Recruit and award scholarships to student-athletes.
  • Schedule travel, officials and meals for team.
  • Oversee student-athlete development and evaluation.
  • Responsible for fundraising to support the program, the athletics department, and university.
  • Develop and maintain positive alumni and community relations.
  • Build quality relationships and work collaboratively as well as professionally with athletics, university staff, students, and all constituencies and stakeholders.
  • Support and work cooperatively with the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, Equipment, Student Development, NCAA Compliance, Media Relations etc. areas in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and support in athletics marketing and fan experience initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience specific to coaching Acrobatics and tumbling or one of the disciplines of gymnastics (i.e. artistic, acrobatic, trampoline, power tumbling) or cheerleading (competitive or sideline).
  • Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to work varying hours which may include days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience in a collegiate level program preferred.
  • Preferred former student athlete.
  • Experience in recruiting qualified student athletes.

PositionTitle: Visiting Assistant Professor - Sociology

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Sociology

Augustana University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Sociology Department, to begin Fall 2021.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment, coupled with teaching ability in the areas of medical sociology, gender, and social inequality.  Experience or special interest in gender and aging/gerontology is welcomed.

The load for this position is three courses per semester plus one course during our January term. Applicants should be prepared to teach the following courses at a minimum: Intro to Sociology, Medical Sociology, Social Inequality, and Race and Gender in Medicine and Health Care (or equivalent), plus a sociology topics course of the applicant’s choosing during the January term.

The Augustana University Department of Mathematics anticipates hiring a Visiting Assistant Professor of Statistics for a one-year appointment starting Fall Semester 2021 (8/23/2021). A PhD in Statistics or Applied Mathematics in hand or imminent completion by the appointment start date is required.
