The Archeology Laboratory, established in 1982, is a cultural resource management and archeological research facility based on the campus of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. ALAC is closely associated with Augustana’s Anthropology program, which emphasizes ecological archeology. Students who major in anthropology spend a year abroad at the Department of Archeology, University of Exeter (Exeter, England).
We maintain close working relationships with a cadre of interdisciplinary specialists who provide expertise in topics such as soils and geomorphology, environmental studies, remote sensing, and historic architecture.
ALAC is housed in approximately 4,500 square feet of space in three buildings. We maintain equipment to outfit multiple survey and excavation crews. Analyses and report preparation are accomplished at our fully equipped facility at Augustana College.
We maintain an extensive library of books, scholarly journals, and unpublished technical reports. These materials are augmented by holdings at the Center for Western Studies, a major on-campus archival research center for the Great Plains.
All of our clients — private sector or public sector, large or small — receive the same high quality, personal service. We strive to provide excellence, cost efficiency, and effectiveness with every endeavor.
