Studying Off Campus

Opportunities abound in Sioux Falls and the surrounding area for classroom experience and student teaching placements.

Augustana University education majors study off campus throughout their program as they complete over 100 hours of pre-student teaching field experiences.  From the traditional K-12 classroom, special education settings, immersion classrooms for English Language Learners, to community agencies such as the Center for New Americans or Lifescape, education majors experience a wide variety of authentic educational contexts throughout their program of study.

Opportunities for out-of-the-area student teaching are possible in a United States venue, such as Alaska, Arizona, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, or on Native American reservations.  In addition, international student teaching placements can be arranged and have taken place in a variety of countries including Norway, Germany, Tanzania, Switzerland, Peru, and Japan.

We also encourage students to take advantage of Augustana’s study abroad program. We’ve placed student teachers around the world, in New Guinea, Norway, Japan, Germany, Tanzania, as well as many more foreign countries.
