Studying Off Campus

Opportunities abound in Sioux Falls and the surrounding area for classroom experience and student teaching placements.  Special education and education of the deaf and hard of hearing majors have worked at Children’s Care Hospital and School, Children’s Home Society, South Dakota School for the Deaf, and Sioux Vocational Services.

We also encourage students to take advantage of Augustana’s study abroad program. We’ve placed student teachers around the world, in New Guinea, Norway, and Germany as well as in Alaska, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and on Native American reservations.

Our students also participate in extracurricular activities both on and off campus. For example, for Peace Day many education majors organized and wrote various curricula and lessons related to this event. Students often feel so engaged with their first tutoring experiences that they maintain contact with their mentee throughout the school year, much more than the curriculum requires.

Where will an education major take you when you graduate?
