General Education Requirements: The Augustana Plan
Augustana provides an education of enduring worth by blending the broad learning experiences of the liberal arts with each student’s individual professional goals, and integrating Christian faith and learning.
Through The Augustana Plan students explore a variety of topics which help them discover their passion(s), broaden their perspective, better understand the interconnectedness of the disciplines, and continue to explore interests they have already identified. The curriculum is designed to develop articulate communicators, competent writers, creative thinkers, skilled problem solvers, and ethically minded, responsible citizens of the world.
Satisfactory completion of 59 credit hours in the general education plan is required for graduation. Some of these requirements may be satisfied through advanced placement exams, pre-matriculation coursework and department test-outs. Each student has the option to be exempt (Wild Card) from one requirement in the General Education Plan, excluding the laboratory science course in Natural Science (Area 3.2) or any course in Developing Values, Perspectives, and Commitment (Area 4).
