What Can I Do With a HPER Major?
Chase your dreams.
When Teresa Resch became a major in sports management and business administration, she knew she wanted to work in the NBA one day—even though the closest professional basketball team was more than four hours away in a different state. Working together, faculty in the HPER department helped and encouraged her to follow her dream. Now the 2004 alumna is working for the NBA League office in New York City as the program coordinator for the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders program.
HPER majors can be personal trainers, physical therapists, teachers, coaches, and more. Recent alumni successes include:
- Nick Ovenden ’07, personal trainer at Sanford Medical Center
- Sarah Breuer Wielenga ’05, physical therapist at Sioux Center Community Hospital
- Dr. Jeff Sailer ’01, owner of Sailer Family Chiropractic
- Katie Bohl ’06, physical therapist and athletic trainer at Grant Regional Health Center
- Derrick Budig ’00, strength coach at Northern State University
- Tryg Odney ’95, Sports Medicine Outreach Manager, Sanford Health
