Interdepartmental Minors: Gerontology; Gender; Children & Youth

Sociology students

Three interdeparmental minors have an important connection to the sociology department:

  • Gerontology — Experiential/service learning with community elders and organizations which serve them is an active dimension of the gerontology coursework.
  • Gender Studies — Through the interdisciplinary minor in gender studies, men and women learn to analyze the ways in which notions of gender, race, class, and sexuality shape the world, and the ways in which the world, in turn, shapes these notions.
  • Youth & Children -- This emphasis better prepares sociology majors for careers working with youth and children in the context of family, school, and community
