Q: How long have you been at Augustana? Why did you choose to accept a faculty position here? Why have you stayed?
"I have been teaching 39 years. I was graduated from Augustana College with majors in English and theater, and I loved the experience. So when the opportunity came to return to Augustana, I said yes. The Augustana students keep me interested and young in spirit."

Q: What is your favorite class to teach? Why?
"I have no favorite class: I like teaching first-year students to write better. I like reading and discussing literature with the second year students. I enjoy the intensity of the upper class Shakespeare seminar."

Q: What is your current research and/or area of interest?
"My area of primary interest has been drama. Yet my most recent research interest, apart from Shakespeare performance, has been Irish literature, particularly James Joyce. Joyce is the master of language, one of the greatest twentieth century figures. He is difficult. I want to understand and appreciate this writer."

Q: What are some of your interests outside of Augustana?
"I love travel, alone, or with students. I say that I'm currently stuck on England and Ireland. I love to read, see films and theatre, hike, play with my three overweight dogs."

Q: What is the best thing about being a member of the Augustana campus community?
"The three best things about the Augustana campus community are the students, students, students."

Q: Is there anything else you would like to share (an interesting fact or a personal quirk) with prospective students?
"I cannot imagine that I have any quirks. Students and colleagues probably should respond to that question."
