Looking back on your senior year of high school, why did you choose Augustana?
After visiting many colleges, Augustana's size, academic reputation, and atmosphere made it the perfect fit for me. While touring the Augustana campus, I thought it was pretty cool how friendly the faculty and students were as I walked around. Augustana's strong academic reputation helped seal my college decision, and their science programs were particularly impressive.
How and why did you choose your major?
I chose my biology major because of my interest in the health care field. Since I was a little kid I've always wanted to be a dentist and that career interest followed the lines of a biology major.
What is the best class you have taken at Augustana?
Social Dance! The class has a carefree environment and always brightens your day. We learn all types of dances and the class is stress-free with no homework except polishing your dance moves.
Do you have a favorite professor?
I've had many great professors at Augie. The professor that first comes to mind is Dr. Earl who I've had most of my chemistry classes with. Dr. Earl has a true interest in every student in his classes and he has a unique way of challenging students to expand their abilities. Dr. Earl's dedication to developing the character and work ethic of his students is evident through his interactive teaching methods.
What is your favorite meal at the Commons? (The on-campus cafeteria)
The beef fajitas are tough to beat, and the daily homemade soups are solid. You can always count on a good cereal selection too!
What is your favorite memory from your first year at Augie?
Carrying out a 4th Floor Bergsaker (a freshman dorm on campus) traditions, including a slip-n-slide in the hallways. A must for all freshmen!
Other than the slip-n-slide, what advice would you give to first-year students at Augustana?
Try to meet as many new people as possible. Find a good mix with school and free time. At Augie, I have been on the 40 hours a week plan- Monday through Friday I try to spend 8 hours a day in class, labs, and studying and then have the weekends free!
Do you have any plans after graduation?
Yes, I have been accepted to the University of Minnesota Dental School in the Twin Cities.
What will you miss most about Augustana?
I am really going to miss being able to see all my friends on a daily basis. I have met many friends for life that I will definitely keep in contact with after our Augie careers are concluded.
