What is your favorite part about being a student-athlete at Augustana?
I love playing basketball and will do it for as long as I can. Being a student-athlete at Augustana is fun because it's a smaller school and the professors know you personally. They come to the games and talk with you about them as well.
How and why did you choose your major?
I chose education because it was something I have always wanted to do. I grew up with both parents as teachers so it is also something that runs in the family. I just remember the teachers that I loved and made school fun and hope that I can someday be that teacher for someone else.
Do you have a favorite professor at Augustana?
Too many to pick just one! I have a favorite for every area of study.
Do you have a lot of interaction with students who aren't your teammates?
I do have a lot of interaction with students that are not my teammates, especially other athletes. Of course, I do spend a lot of time with my teammates. I also have lots of interaction with students in my major because as I get into my upper level courses there are many of the same people in all of my classes.
In your mind, what is the Augie student body like?
I think the Augie student body is much closer and more friendly than at a larger, state school. For the most part, you know or at least know of almost everyone in your class and many of the students in other classes as well.
What is the best class you've taken at Augustana?
I really enjoyed Recent U.S. History this semester with Professor Johnson because it covers my favorite history topics: The Great Depression, FDR and the 50's and 60's.
What is your favorite hangout spot on campus?
The Commons, me and my teammates can sit in there for hours just talking to new people as they come and leave. It's a good place to waste some time!
What is your favoite meal in the Commons?
Grilled cheese, hands down.
Looking back to your senior year of high school, why did you choose Augustana?
I chose Augie because it had the right mix of characteristics that fit what I wanted. I like that it is a smaller campus so you get to know a lot of your classmates and your professors know you personally. You aren't just a number here; professors know you by name. Along with the campus/class size, I also liked that it is a Division II NCAA school, and it is in the NCC [North Central Conference] the best Division II conference in the nation. The combination of high academic and athletic standards was just what I wanted!
What is your favorite memory from your first year at Augie?
All the awesome people I met. Coming in your freshman year is hard, but also so much fun because everything is new to you. All freshmen are in the same boat so you really get to know people you might not have met otherwise.
Do you have any specific plans or career goals after graduation?
I am hoping to find a teaching/coaching job anywhere I can get one, hopefully in Minnesota or someplace warm.
What will you miss most about Augustana after graduation?
My teammates and the general atmosphere and people around me. Living on or around campus, there are always people around and things to do. I will miss that.
