Molly Buyske
Class of 2009
Hometown: Shelby, MT
Major: Theatre
Extracurricular Activities: Brand Name Improv, Augie Theatre Company, Catholics in Action.
How did you choose your major?
I did children's theatre when I was younger and I did some school plays in middle and high school. I really enjoy being up onstage and affecting people. I always thought I was going to be a teacher because I figured acting would be an unrealistic profession, but then I decided, "Why not? I can do anything I want." So here I am, pursuing acting.
Looking back on senior year of high school, why did you choose Augustana?
It really was a no-brainer for me. I was looking at maybe two other schools, but I knew Augie was the place for me. My eldest sister graduated from here last year and really talked up the theatre program. I knew it was probably one of the best theatre programs in the Midwest. Also, I have another sister who is a junior here. That helped my decision too.
Did you consider other schools? Why did you decide to travel a relatively long distance to go attend Augustana?
I considered a school in Wyoming and a school in Montana. I didn't really want to go to school in Montana because I wanted to meet new people and have a different experience. I knew I wouldn't be able to handle school in New York and Augie is a little closer to home and has an excellent program. It is also a friendly, small school.
What is your current class schedule? Do you have a favorite class?
I am taking Psychology 110 [Self and Others: Psychological Perspectives], Theatre 320 [Advanced Acting], Biology 110 [Biology and Human Concerns], and English 200 [The Literary Experience: A Genre Approach]. I don't know if I really have a favorite, but I do enjoy Acting because I learn so much about myself and about acting.
Will you participate in any study abroad or other off-campus programs?
I am hoping to study abroad when I am older, probably over J-term.
What is the most unexpected thing you have done or experienced during your first semester at Augustana?
Oh goodness, I don't know where to begin. I have had some fun, random moments with the girls on my floor, and when you are in theatre you never know what to expect!
What is your favorite hangout spot?
I hang out in the theatre a lot, and the Commons is a good place to catch up with people. The Huddle is really nice, too.
At this point do you have career goals, or specific plans for after graduation?
I don't know what I am going to do after graduation. Eventually I want to act in movies and television. That is my life goal.
Do you have plans for this summer?
I am heading back home and working at our golf course and life guarding at our pool. Hopefully next summer I will be able to do some theatre.
