Brooke Pearson
Class of 2007
Hometown: New London, MN
Major: Vocal Music Education
How and why did you choose your major?
I chose to be a music education major because I loved music and I loved kids, so I thought it was a perfect fit. Through my education at Augie, it definitely helped me to define exactly what my passions were and the direction in which I wanted to take my life.
Looking back on your senior year of high school, why did you choose Augustana?
I chose Augustana because I wanted a small Christian college that was somewhat close to home and also a school that had a good music program. I was set on going to college elsewhere, but when I visited Augie, it just felt like home, and I knew I was supposed to be here.
Tell us about your experiences with the Augustana choir.
I have been a part of the Augustana Choir since I was a freshman. I have traveled to Ireland and just recently, Tanzania with the choir. Every year we take a short week-long tour to surrounding states, doing about one concert a day. I absolutely love choir - it is the best group I have been a part of.
You also mentioned that your faith was important factor in your college decision. How have you been able to strengthen you faith at Augustana?
I have been a part of the outreach team, which goes out to numerous congregations around the area providing worship services. I have also helped out with Faith Fest and numerous chapel services on campus. Through these activities, I have definitely developed more of who I am in Christ and my desire to know Christ has strengthened immensely these past four years.
What is the most surprising thing you've done during your time at Augie?
I would have to say being a Peer Advisor in one of the freshman dorms. The things you encounter everyday in the freshmen dorms are always surprising, but it was one of the best experiences I have ever had.
What is the best class you've taken so far?
One of my favorite classes at Augie was American Sign Language I. I had a blast in that class, and I learned a ton.
What is your favorite meal in the Commons?
I think the buffalo chicken wraps/salads are my number one choice. However, my friends might say that it is cereal because I have it at almost every meal.
Do you have plans or specific career goals immediately after graduation?
I am planning to travel with a music ministry group called CTI for the next year. I will be one of the vocalists for the band, and we will be traveling all over the U.S. and somewhere abroad as well. I know that I want to go into some sort of music ministry - what that exactly looks like, I will find out :-)
What will you miss most about Augustana after graduation?
I will definitely miss the close relationships I have built and the community here. I think I will miss being able to walk across the hall in my pajamas and hang out with my friends too.
