Yes, larger cash gifts can be spread over a period of time (most commonly three to five years). You may make annual, semi-annual, or quarterly payments or use a preauthorized monthly automatic draft plan from your bank account. Q. Do I have to pay my pledge with cash? A. No, a person can make "non-cash charitable deductions" such as stock, art, real estate, coin collections, gems/jewelry, books, stamp collections, and other things. One needs to transfer the ownership of the noncash gift to Augustana College. When a person makes a gift this way, he/she avoids paying capital gains and receives a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the item. It is always wise to visit with your C.P.A., attorney, or tax preparer in these situations. Please contact an Augustana College Development officer if this interests you. Q. Will you send me a reminder about my pledge? A. Yes, pledge reminders are sent quarterly to donors who have pledged to pay their gift over a period of time. Q. How does the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Match work?

Q. I think my company matches gifts, what do I do? A. Check with your company's Human Resources department for the proper form and information. A. Your gift is tax deductible if you itemize when you file your tax return. In some situations you can carry forward your unused deductions. There are marvelous opportunities when a person plans properly in the distribution of their estate - one can realize significant tax savings. It is always wise to contact your C.P.A., attorney, or tax preparer in these situations. Q. How can I make a memorial gift? A. Please call the Development office at (605) 274-5521 and ask for a development officer. We will send you a Memorial Gift Packet which includes an envelope that you can mail the gift in to the College and a card and envelope that you can mail to the family. Q. What percentage of Augustana alumni support the College? A. Most recent statistics indicate that 23 percent of our alumni support the College. Q. What is the importance of a strong percentage of alumni who give to the College? A. Foundations, such as Bush and Kresge, examine how many alumni support colleges when determining who they support. Strong alumni participation increases our chances for foundation support. It is really a vote of confidence for the education you received and helps leverage support from those who have not directly benefited from the Augustana experience. Q. How large is Augustana's endowment? A. Augustana's endowment was valued at over $53 million as of July 31, 2007. Q. How do I get my name in Augustana's Annual Report? A. Any person who makes a gift between January 1 and December 31 of a given year is recognized in the Annual Report. Q. How can I let the College know my new address or phone number? A. Contact Steve Williamson at (605) 274-5020 Q. How much money does it take to start a scholarship? A. A person can fund a scholarship annually and we ask the minimum award to be $500. A person can name an endowed scholarship for $10,000 which will then live in perpetuity. The fund is invested and earns interest - part of the income is awarded and the other part is reinvested so the scholarship grows over time.
