A Message from the Alumni Association President

In recent articles in the Augustana Today , I have talked about giving generously to Augustana of your time and treasure and I have encouraged you to engage in some aspect of the Augustana community. During this season of Easter, I ask you to also give generously of your faith. As we sacrifice a few of the things that are seemingly important to us, we begin to see all that we have and we are reminded of the struggles of those around us. As members of the Augustana community, we may look at the current students of Augustana and think they live carefree lives with few worldly concerns. We remember the good times of college, but we often forget the struggles we faced—the very struggles that shaped us into the adults we are today.

This Easter season, let us be reminded of Augustana students who are struggling. I ask that each of us takes some time to pray for these students as they work their ways through the many choices and issues facing young adults today. I pray our Augustana students sense the support not only of their friends, but also of our faculty, staff, administration, and alumni.

When our students chose Augustana, they chose to become members of the Augustana community. They are not here merely to get an education, but rather to be a part of something bigger than them—something bigger than their classes, their internships, and their careers. They enjoy a network of support, and as alumni our support is not only financial, it is also spiritual.

The problems we encountered at Augustana, the issues we faced, the choices we made are all parts of who we are today. Please, God, guide our Augustana students to find their ways, to make good choices, and to feel the love and support of the Augustana community.
