Information Concerning Graduation
Graduation List: By March 15 a copy of the graduation list will be posted on the bulletin board on the second floor of the Administration Building. Please check the list at that time for the correct spelling of your last name. Report errors in writing to the Registrar's Office.
Academic Honors: Academic honors are figured using your GPA after the end of the Interim. Your diploma insert will be printed based on your final grades and will reflect any honor changes. See the catalog for requirements to be eligible for graduation honors.
Caps and Gowns: Caps and gowns will be fitted and picked up at graduation practice the Saturday before graduation. There is no charge to graduates.
Graduation at the End of the Summer Session: Because no commencement exercises are held at the close of the summer session, all candidates for graduation will participate in the May ceremony. In order to participate in the graduation ceremony, you must be able to finish graduation requirements by the end of the summer term. For undergraduate students, this includes completing 130 semester hour requirements, and major requirements.
Graduation at the End of Next Fall or Interim: Students may petition to walk early. Click here for the petition form. Students who walk early must still apply to graduate next fall.
Diploma Inserts: Your diploma insert will be mailed to you after second semester grades are processed providing you have no academic deficiencies or unpaid accounts at the Business Office. Normally, the inserts are mailed by the end of June.
Graduation Practice, Baccalaureate, and Graduation Ceremony: Graduation practice is held in the Elmen Center on the Saturday (May 24) before graduation at 10:00 am. All caps and gowns are distributed at practice at 9:30 am. Graduates must be present or send a substitute. Additional graduation information will be sent the first part of May. Baccalaureate is at 10:00 am in the Elmen Center and the commencement ceremony is at 2:00 pm at the Sioux Falls Arena. Tickets are NOT required for family members. Seating begins an hour before each event. Graduates should report a half hour before start time to robe and line up.
