According to federal law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, i.e. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition if any of the following conditions apply:

  • The disclosure is prohibited by law
  • If the disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim
  • If disclosure would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual
  • If disclosure would cause a suspect to flee or evade detection
  • If disclosure would result in the destruction of evidence

  • 12:00 AM - Power Plant, 2108 S. Grange Avenue.  Unauthorized Entry.  Augustana College Staff member contacted Campus Safety Officer and reported that someone had gained access to the Power Plant during non-business hours.  The Staff member and Officer conducted an investigation and discovered possible entry points used to gain access into the building.  Nothing was reported missing at time of report.  Investigation continues.  Pictures taken.  Incident report completed.
  • 11:55 AM - Center for Visual Arts, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Vandalism.  CVA Staff member contacted Campus Safety and reported a possible vandalism that was done to one of the art exhibits in the gallery.  Officer responded.  Upon arrival the Officer and Saff member went to the art piece that had been damaged.  It appeared that the art exhibit may have had structural issues due to the humidity that caused parts of the exhibit to detach from the base of the exhibit.  Pictures taken.  Surveillance video being reviewed.  Incident report completed.
  • 1:27 PM - Costello Hall, 2413 S. Grange Avenue.  Burglary.  Officers responded to a phone report of a burglary that had occurred at a Campus apartment.  Upon arrival Officers observed signs of forced entry into the apartment.  Officers entered and found the apartment unoccupied.  The Sioux Fall Police were contacted and responded.  Evidence collected.  Incident report completed.  Investigation continues.

  • 12:41 PM - Mikkelsen Library, 2117 S. Summit Avenue.  Verbal Disagreement.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a phone report of a heated argument between several individuals in front of the library.  Officers responded. Subjects were identified and seperated.  Incident report completed.

  • 2:45 PM - Gilbert Science Center, 2407 S. Summit Avenue.  Slip and Fall Injury.  An officer was dispatched to assist a student who fell after stepping up on a stool to remove an object from a high shelf. Victim suffered an injury to the wrist and was transported to a hospital emergency room for treatment. Incident report completed.
  • 7:58 PM - Humanities Center. 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Possible Narcotics Violation.  Officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a marijuana odor in an academic building. Officers confirmed the presence of the odor; however, the subjects had already left the area. Incident report completed.

  • 7:00 PM - Humanities Center, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Possible Narcotics Violation.  Campus Safety was notified of a marijuana odor in an academic building.  Officers responded; however, the subjects had already left the area. Incident report completed.
  • 7:05 PM - Costello Hall, 2413 S. Grange Avenue.  Domestic Disturbance. METRO Communications dispatched Campus Safety officers to meet SFPD officers investigating a possible stabbing outside of a campus apartment building. Investigation determined the event was a result of a non-resident domestic disturbance. The victim was transported to the hospital and treated. Incident resulted in one arrest for aggravated domestic assault. Incident report completed.

  • 11:15 PM - Lookout House, 1932 S. Prairie Avenue.  Fallen Tree / Possible Damage to Vehicles.  Officers were dispatched to a report that a tree had fallen which might have caused damage to vehicles in the driveway.  The tree was completely blocking the driveway and prevented any use of the driveway.  Sioux Falls Police were contacted but did not respond.  Pictures were taken.  Incident report completed.

  • 12:00 PM - Edith Mortenson Center, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Vandalism.  An officer was dispatched to investigate a report of a broken window. Window was broken sometime between 5:00 PM Friday July 10th and 8:00 AM Monday July 13th. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

  • 1:55 PM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Assault.  METRO Communications dispatched Campus Safety Officers to investigate a report of an assault during a junior basketball tournament. SFPD also responded. An argument broke out between parents leading to a male subject chest-bumping a female subject who slapped him in the face. Subjects declined to press charges after learning they were mutually liable for assault and both facing arrest. Incident report completed.

  • 1:30 AM - Intersection of 28th Street and Menlo Avenue.  Theft of City Property.  Officer conducting patrol observed a group of four intoxicated males in possession of two street sign posts that had been removed and carried onto the campus. Two subjects were detained and two others fled on foot. Detained subjects were turned over to SFPD for questioning and police investigation continues.  Incident report completed.

  • 4:44 PM - Sioux Falls Seminary, 2100 S. Summit Avenue.  Damage to Vehicle.  A student contacted Campus Safety to file a report of a vehicle window being broken out. Officers responded and documented the damage, SFPD responded and initiated an investigation. Incident report completed.
  • 7:38 PM - Humanities Center, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Disorderly Conduct.  A student was observed yelling obscenities at security officers and kicking over cones marking newly poured concrete. Officers identified the student and completed an incident report. Report forwarded to College authorities for action.

  • 2:24 AM - Diversity Experience House, 1923 S. Prairie Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a fire alarm notification.  Officers responded along with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.  It was discovered that the fire alarm was activated as a result of a cooking accident.  SFFR reset the fire alarm panel.  Incident report completed.

  • 9:15 AM - Edith Mortenson Center, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Medical Issue.  Student presented to the Office of Campus Safety and reported that they had injured their hand.  The student had already received medical treatment prior to reporting their injury.  Incident report completed.

  • 12:20 AM - 2305 S. Summit Avenue.  Downed Power Line.  Officer conducting patrol discovered a downed power line in an alley behind a private residence. Scene was secured until Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was able to respond.
  • 1:35 AM - Summit Apartments, 2420 S. Summit Avenue.  Underage Consumption / Drunkenness.  A concerned student requested assistance in assessing an intoxicated and unconscious subject. Campus Safety Officers and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded and determined the student was in no medical danger. Residence Life made arrangements for the student to be monitored the remainder of the night. Incident report completed.

  • 4:25 AM - Edith Mortenson Center, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Exhibition Driving / Damage to Property.  An officer conducting foot patrol observed a set of car tire tracks on the campus green near the Edith Mortenson Center. Tracks indicated the car had been driven over a sidewalk onto the grass and in a large circle, tearing up the grass in several spots. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

  • 11:13 PM - 2104 S. Norton Avenue.  Fireworks Violation.  A neighborhood resident waved down a Campus Safety Officer on patrol to report that someone had thrown some powerful fireworks at their house. The explosions were loud enough to awaken and alarm several neighbors in the vicinity. Incident report completed.
  • 11:45 PM - Norse Inn, 2409 S. Grange Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Officers responded to an automated fire alarm in a campus apartment building. SFFR also responded and determined that a detector had been triggered by shower steam while an occupant was attempting to steam out wrinkles from a shirt. Incident report completed.
  • 11:48 PM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Driving on Sidewalk / Exhibition Driving.  An officer responding to a fire alarm observed a vehicle driving in a campus parking lot in an unsafe manner. Vehicle and the driver were positively identified. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

  • 5:56 PM - Scheneman Apartments, 1400 Block of West 33rd Street.  Damage to Vehicle.  A student presented at Campus Safety to report body damage to his vehicle while parked in the parking lot behind Schoeneman Apartments. The student believed that a hit ball from the softball field caused the damage. Incident report completed.

  • 7:27 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2332 S. Duluth Ave.  Fire Alarm.  Officers responded to an automated fire alarm in a campus apartment complex. SFFR also responded. Cause of the alarm was determined to be cooking smoke. Inicdent report completed.

  • 10:00 AM - Granskou Hall, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Well Being Check.  Campus Safety was requested to conduct a welfare check on a missing student.  Student was located safe and concerned parties were notified. Incident report completed.

  • 1:28 AM - Larson Track and Field Complex, 2600 S. Grange Avenue.  Vehicular Hit and Run.  An officer conducting routine patrol observed a vehicle ram through a gated fence, destroying it, and proceed to drive across an athletic field. The officer was able to identify the vehicle and license plate as the driver fled. SFPD responded and took charge of the investigation. Incident report completed.   
  • 9:40 PM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Medical Call.  Officers responded after being notified that an ambulance was enroute the Elmen Center regarding a sports injury. After being assessed by paramedics the victim declined medical treatment and transportion. Incident report completed.

  • 5:14 PM - Nelson Service Center, 2021 S. Menlo Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident.  An officer observed two damaged vehicles in a parking lot and made contact with the owners. Investigation determined that the parking brake on the first vehicle failed allowing vehicle to roll back and strike the second vehicle. SFPD responded and issued red tags.
  • 9:30 PM - Summit Avenue Apartments, 2420 S. Summit Avenue.  Alcohol Policy Violation.  Officers conducting a fire watch walk through discovered over 3 dozen bottles of beer in an unsecured storage area. Alcohol was confiscated and an incident report completed.

  • 8:38 PM - Solberg, Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received an automated report of a fire alarm in an unoccupied dormitory. Officers and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded and determined cause to be a faulty detector. System was disabled and fire watch was set. Incident report completed.

Prairie Avenue.  Noise Complaint.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a noise complaint.  Officers responded to the location given.  Officers made contact with the sutudents in the room that was the source of the noise complaint.  Students were compiant.  Music was turned down.  Incident report completed.

  • 5:30 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2308 S. Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a phone report of a fire alarm.  Officers were dispatched to the location given.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue also responded.  Apparently the resident of the apartment was cooking dinner and burned some food, setting off the fire alarm.  SFFR reset the fire panel.  Incident report completed.

  • 9:55 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2308 S. Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a full fire alarm activation.  Officers responded to the location given.  Sioux Fall Fire Rescue also responded.  When Officers arrived the apatment was full of smoke.  Officers located the resident of the apartment who reported that they had burnt some chicken on the stove top.  SFFR arrived on scene and reset the fire panel.  SFFR reported that this was the second call of the day for this apartment.  Incident report completed.
  • 3:00 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2308 S. Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  DCS Dispatch received an automated fire alarm at a campus apartment complex and dispatched officers to investigate. Source of the alarm was determined to be cooking smoke. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded and reauthorized occupation of the builiding. Incident report completed.

  • 10:23 PM - Diversity Experience House, 1923 S. Prairie Avenue.  Unsecured door.  Officers responded to a report of an open door.  Officers checked the residence and found nothing.  Incident report completed.
  • 8:45 AM - Humanities Center, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Medical Call.  Officer responded to a phone report of a person that had fallen.  When the Officer arrived on scene the fall victim was no longer at the location.  The fall victim told staff that they did not need any assistance.  Incident report completed.

  • 8:35 AM - East Hall,  2001 S. Summit Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a Fire Alarm activation notification and dispatched Officers to East Hall.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue also responded.  When Officer arrived on scene contact was made with an employee that was working on the fourth floor.  The employee advised that the fire alarm was activated while the employee was dusting near the fire sensor.  Dust had entered the sensor causing the alarm activation.  SFFR arrived and silenced and reset the alarm panel.  Incident report completed.
  • 12:45 PM - Norse Inn, 2409 S. Grange Avenue.  Vehicle break in.  A student presented to the Office of Campus Safety and reported that their vehicle had been broken into.  Officers responded to the scene.  Some change had been taken nothing else of value was taken.  Pictures were taken and Sioux Falls Police were notified.  Incident report completed.
  • 9:05 PM - Diversity Experience House, 1923 S. Prairie Avenue.  Open Door.  Campus Safety was contacted by the current residents of Diversity Experience House about a door that was open the last couple of nights.  A lower window was also reported as being opened.  Pictures were taken.  Incident report completed.  Increased patrols of area were implemented.

  • 9:30 PM - Granskou Hall, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Missing items.  A student presented to the Office of Campus Safety and reported that some of their items were missing from Granskou Hall.  Officer made contact with the student and recorded what items were missing.  Incident report completed.  The missing items were located in the dumpster near Granskou Hall.  Case Cleared.
  • 12:23 AM - Costello Hall, 2413 S. Grange Avenue.  Domestic Dispute.  A resident of a College apartment complex waved down an officer conducting vehicle patrol and requested assistance in removing a domestic partner from the apartment. Subject declined to leave without assistance and SFPD was responded. Subject was removed from the property by SFPD. Incident report completed.

  • 1:20 PM - Humanities Center, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Trip and Fall.  An officer was dispatched to check on a report of an injured visitor in an academic building. Victim had struck her head when falling backwards but refused medical treatment and ambulance. Victim did agree to be transported to a hospital emergency room in a private vehicle for evaluation. Incident report completed.

  • 11:00 AM - Global Education House, 2001 S. Norton Avenue.  Theft.  An officer was dispatched to investigate a report of a theft of personal electronics from a College owned residential home. The item was last seen several days earlier. Incident report completed and investigation continues.
  • 10:10 pm - Granskou Hall, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Motor Vehicle vs. Building Accident.  A vehicle driver parked illegallly on a campus sidewalk was attempting to back-up off the sidewalk when he struck the corner of a dormitory building. Moderate damage to the vehicle rear bumper. Minimal  damage to the building. The driver was issued a College citation for illegal parking. SFPD responded and issued a red tag for the vehicle.

  • 2:00 PM - Granskou Hall, 2008 S. Walts Avenue.  Medical Call.  Officer was dispatched to a dormitory to investigate a report of an injured student. Student suffered a foot injury while moving furniture but declined medical attention. Incident report completed.

  • 10:15 AM - Global Education House, 2001 S. Norton Avenue.  Possible Narcotics Violation.  Residence Life staff reported to Campus Safety the discovery of prescription drugs found under suspicious circumstances in a College owned residential home. Incident report completed and investigation continues.
  • 3:25 PM - Humanities Center, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Theft.  Faculty member reported to Campus Safety the theft of a piece of framed artwork. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

  • 2:05 AM - Intersection of 33rd Street and Norton Avenue.  Hit and Run Motor Vehicle Accident / Driving Under the Influence.  Officer conducting vehicle patrol was waived down by a pedestrian who had witnessed a vehicle run over a STOP sign and directed officer in the direction the vehicle had fled. Officer discovered the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road near 37th Street and Norton Avenue. Driver attempted to walk away on foot but was detained until SFPD arrived and took charge of the investigation. Driver was arrested for DUI and transported to the Minnehaha County Jail. Incident report completed.
  • 2:51 AM - Granskou Hall, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Well-Being Check.  DCS Dispatch received a call requesting a well-being check be conducted on a student. Student was located intoxicated but otherwise safe. Student was assessed and determined to be in no medical danger. Incident report completed.

  • 2:45 PM - Old Main, 2001 S. Summit Avenue.  Vandalism.  Officer on patrol observed a broken window on a campus building. Incident report completed.

  • 11:40 PM - Ronken Baseball Field, 33rd Street and Euclid Avenue.  Attempted Theft.  An officer conducting patrol on campus observed a subject on the baseball field attempting to remove College property from the field. Subject was stopped and identified. Incident report completed.

Thursday, May 21, 2015

  • 3:50 PM - Intersection of 33rd Street and Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle v. Pedestrian Accident.  At 5:05 PM a student presented at Campus Safety to file a late report of being struck by a motor vehicle while crossing at the intersection of 33rd Street and Grange Avenue. The driver of a red pick-up with a chrome cattle guard left the scene of the accident without stopping. The pedestrian suffered bruises to the arm. SFPD and ambulance responded and the victim declined medical treatment. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

  • 8:05 PM - 31st & Summit Avenue.  Suspicious Male.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a phone complaint of a male subject attempting to stop traffic and then asking for money.  Officers responded.  Officer Contacted Sioux Falls Police after the subject was located and found to be yelling at a house.  Incident report completed.

  • 3:00 PM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Sports Injury.  A student presented at Campus Safety to file a late report of a sports injury on May 18th. Student was participating in Karate class when struck in the head by another participant. Student was transported to a hospital emergency room in a private vehicle several hours later and diagnosed with a concussion. Incident report completed.
  • 10:11 PM - Granskou Hall, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Disorderly Conduct.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a report of unidentified subjects throwing bottles and jars out of a 6th floor day room window. Officers responded and interviewed witnesses and the possible responsible parties. Incident report completed.
  • 10:48 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Officers responded to a residence hall after an automated fire alarm was received in Campus Safety Dispatch. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded and determined that source of the alarm was a pull station. SFFR confirmed there was no smoke or flame and authorized reoccupation of the building. Incident report completed.

  • 12:01 AM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Medical Transport.  Officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a medical emergency. Officers determined it was a non-emergency and complied with student request for transport to a hospital emergency room. Student was treated, released and transported back to campus. Incident report completed.
  • 1:39 AM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Probable Narcotics Violation.  Officers werre disptached to a dormitory to investigate a report of a marijuana odor in a residence room. Residence Life and officers were able to locate specific source of the odor and made contact with the residents. Residents were warned and an incident report was completed and forwarded to College authorities for action.
  • 4:53 AM - 723 W. 33rd Street.  Burglary Investigation.  METRO Communications requested DCS officers be on the lookout for a suspect in a neighborhood burglary incident. Suspect was located and monitored while SFPD responded and made contact with the suspect.
  • 5:16 PM - Costello Hall, 2413 S. Grange Avenue.  Bicycle Theft.  Students observed a subject matching the description of a bicycle theft suspect removing a bicycle from a bicycle rack. Students confronted the suspect who responded in a verbally aggressive manner and fled on the bicycle. DCS officers were notified and searched for the subject without locating him. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

  • 8:40 PM - Stavig Hall, 2008 S. Walts Avenue.  Students Trapped in an Elevator.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a call from a student reporting that five students were trapped in a dormitory elevator. Time coincident with the elevator malfunction an internet outage took down the campus telephone system including Campus Safety emergency alarm phones. Students were trapped in the elevator unable to communicate for approximately 20 minutes. Elevator contractor was contacted for an emergency service call but failed to arrive in a timely manner and Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue responded and rescued the students from the elevator. An incident report was completed.
  • 9:24 PM - Granskou Hall, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Reported Bicycle Theft.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a report of suspicious man matching the description of a bicycle theft suspect removing a bicycle from a dormitory bike rack. Students observed subject leaving campus with the bicycle and reported it to Campus Safety. An officer was disptached to search for the subject; however, the subject had fled in the meantime. Incident report completed and investigation continues.
  • 11:50 PM - Wahl House, 1826 S. Grange Avenue.  Noise Disturbance, Party.  METRO Communications dispatched Campus Safety officers to assist SFPD with a report of a loud party in a College owned independent living residence. SFPD dispersed the party and DCS officers made contact with  and counseled the residents. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities for action.

  • 1:10 AM - 2301 S. Duluth Avenue.  Abandoned Property.  A neighborhood resident contacted Campus Safety to report a suspcious bag that had been abandoned in his yard. An officer responded, interviewed the resident and searched the bag. An assortment of alcoholic beverages and prescription drugs were discovered. SFPD was notified, took possession of the bag and took appropriate follow-up action. Incident report completed.
  • 12:30 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Bicycle Theft.  Student presented at Campus Safety to file a late report of a stolen bicycle. Bicycle was last seen approximately six weeks earlier and was locked to a bike rack. Incident report completed and investigation continues.
  • 3:00 AM - Center for Western Studies, 2121 S. Summit Avenue.  Suspicious Behavior.  Student reported that a suspicious male had approached her in the Center for Western Studies and presented her with a baby rabbit. The subject claimed to be an employee of the Humane Society and attempted to converse with the student in a way that made her uncomfortable. Subject departed the building after three or four minutes. Incident report completed and investigation continues.
  • 4:10 PM - Granskou Hall, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Disorderly Conduct.  A College employee reported to Campus Safety that students in a dormitory were throwing objects from a sixth floor window. An officer responded and made contact together with Residence Life with one of the suspected individuals. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities for action.

  • 7:45 PM - 2425 S. Norton Avenue.  Public Intoxication.  An officer conducting patrol observed an intoxicated male subject laying in the yard of a private residence and notified METRO Communications. SFPD was dispatched and took appropriate action. Incident report completed.

  • 9:00 AM - Gilbert Science Center, 2407 S. Summit Avenue.  Larceny.  Staff member contacted the Office of Campus Safety and reported that a media device had been removed from a class room.  Officer responded and conducted several interviews.  Forensic evidence was collected.  Incident report completed.  Investigation continues.
  • 3:40 PM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Harrassment Complaint.  Campus Safety was contacted by an individual that presented to the office.  The subject reported being harrassed by another subject.  The victim was interviewed and a suspect was identified.  The victim was offered a security escort but declined.  Follow-up on incident was completed.  College authorities were notified by investigating Officer of the incident.  Incident report completed.  Suspect is being monitored by DCS.
  • 5:00 PM - Public property near the intersection of 29th and Grange Avenue.  Possible Theft.  Officers observed a suspicious male subject walking a bicycle.  Subject matched the discription of a suspect wanted for questioning regarding multiple bicycle thefts in the area of the Augustana College Campus.  Sioux Falls Police were contacted and responded.  The suspect eluded the Police unit and Campus Safety Officers while on the suspected stolen bicycle.  Incident report completed.

  • 12:00 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Bike Theft.  A student called and reported that their bike had been taken.  The student then came to the Office of Campus Safety and gave information about the bike to an Officer.  Incident report completed.
  • 5:30 PM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Theft.  Student presented at Campus Safety to report the theft of a cell phone and ID card from a locker room in the Elmen Center. Locker was not locked at the time of the theft. Incident report completed and investigation continues.
  • 9:06 PM - Global Education House, 2001 S. Norton Avenue.  Fire Alarm Activation.  A fire alarm was reported by Metro Communication.  Officers responded along with the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.  When SFFR and Campus Safety arrived on scene there was no smoke or flames visible.  SFFR completed a walk-through of the complex.  SFFR could not locate a cause for the alarm activation.  SFFR reset the fire panel.  Incident report completed.
