 According to federal law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, i.e. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition if any of the following conditions apply:

  • The disclosure is prohibited by law
  • If disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim
  • If disclosure would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual
  • If disclosure would cause a suspect to flee or evade detection
  • If disclosure would result in the destruction of evidence

Below are incidents that occurred within the last two weeks.

Sunday, May 6, 2012

  • 12:25 AM - 2425 S. Summit Avenue.  Suspicious Activity.  Resident reported seeing multiple subjects with siphon hoses and gas containers in alleyway the previous evening. Subjects fled on foot after being observed. Informational report completed.
  • 2:08 PM - Stavig Parking Lot, 1101 W. 28th Street.  Vandalism to Vehicle.  Student filed report of rear view mirror broken off overnight while vehicle was parked in lot. Incident report completed and investigation continues.
  • 12:45 PM - Gilbert Science Center, 2407 S. Summit Avenue.  Officer discovered lighting globe on ground and pole damaged. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

Monday, May 7, 2012

  • 3:20 AM - Kirkeby-Over Stadium, 2700 S. Lake Avenue.  Suspicous Activity.  SFPD Officer on patrol reported motion sensitive lights tripped in stadium complex and VIP boxes. Campus Safety Officer and SFPD Officers conducted walk through and determined the facility was clear and secure. Incident report completed.

  • 5:05 PM - Morrison Commons/Edith Mortenson Center, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Theft.  An Augustana College employee presented to the Campus Safety Office to report a theft.  Officer completed an incident report and investigation continues.

Thursday, May 10, 2012

  • 7:32 PM - 37th Street and Prairie Avenue.  Drug Abuse Violation.  Officer observed intoxicated male subject walking amongst traffic on public street and made contact. Officer identified non-student subject and detected odor of alcoholic beverage. Subject was determined to be unable to care for himself and SFPD assistance requested.  SFPD responded and subject was arrested for illegal ingestion of a controlled substance. Incident report completed.
  • 8:37 PM - 28th Street Between Grange Avenue and Summit Avenue.  Reckless Driving.  Private citizen reported driver of a vehicle failing to stop for multiple stop signs on campus street. Vehicle information obtained and owner/driver identified. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities for action.  

Friday, May 11, 2012

  • 1:50 AM - Chrysalis House, 1205 W. 33rd Street.  Public Urination.  Officer observed non-student subject urinating on front lawn. Subject fled on foot.  Officer later observed the subject at an off-campus location and warned subject further violations would result in misdemeanor prosecution. Incident report completed.
  • 11:19 PM - 2334 Duluth Place Apartments.  Report of Fire Alarm.  Officers responded to a telephone report of a possible fire alarm. Complex was searched and alarm system checked without any indication of an alarm, smoke or flame. Incident report completed.

  • 6:20 PM - 2308 Duluth Place Apartments.  Fire Alarm.  Officers responded to telephone call and automated fire alarm. Source of alarm located and cooking smoke determined to be the cause. Alarm reset and incident report completed.
  • 11:00 PM - 2308 Duluth Place Apartments.  Narcotics Violation.  Officers conducting a building check discovered a propped laundry room door and upon entry into the building detected a strong odor of marijuana. Building was secured and informational report completed.

  • 12:37 AM - Administration Building Gazebo, 2101 S. Summit Avenue.  Underage Consumption of Alcohol.  Officers responded to a student report of a suspicious subject loitering in a flower garden. Subject was located, identified and confirmed to have been drinking. Subject was directed to move on. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities.
  • 2:20 AM - Madsen Center Parking Lot, 2301 S. Summit Avenue.  Fight Disturbance.  Campus Safety was notified of an altercation in campus parking lot and responded jointly with USF officers. Non-Augustana subjects were separated, identified, interviewed and SFPD assistance was requested. SFPD released subjects after victim declined to file charges.
  • 2:45 AM - Gilbert Science Center Parking Lot, 2407 S. Summit Avenue.  Disorderly Conduct, Streaking.  Campus Safety officers observed two subjects streaking on campus. One subject was apprehended, identified and returned to residence. Second subject was identified after further interviews. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities for action.
  • 2:55 AM - Vicinity of 33rd Street and Prairie Avenue.  Public Intoxication.  Campus Safety Officers observed a non-Augustana intoxicated subject fall onto street pavement. Officers made contact and determined subject was in need of overnight supervision. SFPD responded and transported subject to Detoxification Unit. Incident report completed.

  • 10:15 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Narcotics Violation.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a report of Marijuana smoke in one of the rooms in the dorm.  Officers responded.  Officers made contact with the residents of the room that had a very strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from within the room.  Officers conducted a search of the room in question.  Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were confiscated and placed into evidence. Suspects identified. Incident report completed.  Sioux Falls Police notified.  PD received the evidence and took custody of the evidence.  All reports forwarded to College authorities.

Tuesdaty, May 15, 2012

  • 1:38 AM - Tuve Hall, 1109 W. 28th Street.  Vandalism.  A witness to a vandalism presented to the Campus Safety office to report the incident.  The witness reported that two students had done intentional damage to College property.  Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities.  Investigation continues.
  • 2:08 AM - Gilbert Science Center, 2407 S. Summit Avenue.  Vandalism.  Officer observed damage to College property.  Incident report completed.  Investigation continues.
  • 2:20 AM - Summit Apartments, 2420 S. Summit Avenue.  Vandalism.  Campus Safety was advised of a moped that had been knocked over.  Incident report completed, photos taken.
  • 3:20 AM - Seminary, 2100 S. Summit Avenue.  Disorderly Conduct.  Officer observed several College Students walking northbound on Summit Avenue.  One of the Students was observed throwing a large rock at a newer model pick-up that was parked.  The rock struck the rear of the pick-up.  Officer identified the student that had thrown the rock.  Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities.
  • 6:15 AM - Humanities, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Vandalisim.  Officer observed damage to College property.  Incident report completed, photos taken.
  • 6:36 AM - 28th Street Junction of Walts Avenue.  Vandalisim.  Officer observed damage to College property.  Incident report completed, photos taken.
  • 9:50 AM - Campus Safety, 2001 S. Grange Avenue.  Hit & Run.  A victim of a Hit & Run presented to Campus Safety to report the incident.  Officer completed an incident report and took photos of the damage done to the victim's vehicle.

  • 8:13 PM - 2101 S. Summit Avenue. Unattended Juveniles.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a report of two very small children walking around on the Campus Green.  Officers located the two children.  Officer determined where the children lived and returned them to their residence.  Sioux Falls PD were notified and responded.  This is an ongoing problem with the children being unsupervised.  Incident report completed.
  • 11:34 PM - Granskou Hall, 1025 W. 28th Street.  Elevator Malfunction.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a report of students being trapped in one of the Granskou Hall elevators.  Officer responded along with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.  SFFR opened the elevator door and Students were extricated.  Incident report completed.

  • 4:22 PM - Sioux Falls Seminary, 2100 S. Summit Avenue.  Unattended Vehicle.  Officer was dispatched to investigate an unattended moped with its engine running. Officer unseuccessfully attempted to locate owner and turned off the moped.
  • 10:49 PM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Assist Police Department.  SFPD requested assistance in locating student to return lost property. Student was located and personal property returned.
  • 11:42 PM - Summit Apartments, 2420 S. Summit Avenue.  Officers observed loud party in College owned apartment building and made contact. No resident was present, Residence Life notified. Officers and Residence Life cleared the apartment and made contact with a resident and instructed him to return. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities.

  • 6:50 AM - 28th Street Parking Lot, 28th Street & Menlo Avenue.  Vandalism.  Officer located a parking regulation sign torn from pole. Incident report completed and investigation continues.
  • 9:15 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Trespassing.  Officer observed non-Augustana subjects rummaging through dumpsters and directed them off campus.

  • 1:02 AM - Fantle Building (CWS), 2121 S. Summit Avenue.  Intrusion Alarm.  Officer responded to an intrusion alarm.  The alarm was activated as a result of a perimeter door not being secured.  Incident report completed.
  • 2:45 AM - Stavig Hall, 1101 W. 28th Street.  Malicious Mischief.  Four intoxicated subjects were observed near the dumpsters by Stavig Hall.  A large scattering of garbage, broken furniture and electronics were observed on the ground by the dumpsters.  Officer was able to identify the intoxicated subjects.  Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities.
  • 7:24 AM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Trespassing.  Officer observed a non-student who had been banned from campus previously for several juvenile offenses.  Officer made contact with the subject.  Officer reissued a trespass notice.  Incident report completed.
  • 11:06 AM - Solberg Hall sidewalk, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Medical Emergency.  Campus Safety Dispatch was notified of an injured person that had fallen.  Officer responded and found a faculty member had fallen and had sustained a shoulder injury.  Ambulance was notified and responded to the scene.  Patient was transported by ambulance to a medical facility for further treatment.  Incident report completed.

  • 12:35 AM - Heritage House, 2510 S. Grange Avenue.  Alcohol Policy Violation.  Officer observed an unauthorized party in College residential housing and advised Residence Life. Party was terminated and a large amount of alcohol confiscated. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities for action.
  • 1:35 AM - Administration Bulding, 2101 S. Summit Avenue.  Drunkeness.  Officer observed an obviously intoxicated male subject hiding behind building and went to investigate. Subject fled on foot. Incident report completed.
  • 2:42 AM - Stavig Hall, 1101 W. 28th Street.  Elevator Malfunction.  Officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a student stuck in an elevator due to a power spike malfunction. When officers arrived all elevators were operating and clear. Elevators temporarily secured. Incident report completed.
  • 3:10 AM - President's Residence, 2817 S. Grange Avenue.  Security Intrusion Alarm.  Officers were dispatched to investigate a security intrusion alarm at College residential property. Property was searched, found to be secure and alarm reset. Possibly caused by series of campus power spikes. Incident report completed.  
  • 6:46 PM - Elmen Parking Lot, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Officer observed subject behaving suspiciously in amongst parked cars and investigated. Subject was identified as an unauthorized solicitor and directed off campus. Informational report completed.
