According to federal law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, i.e. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition if any of the following conditions apply:

  • The disclosure is prohibited by law
  • If disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim
  • If disclosure would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual
  • If disclosure would cause a suspect to flee or evade detection
  • If disclosure would result in the destruction of evidence

Monday, July 28, 2014

  • 12:42 PM - Center for Visual Arts, 2120 S. Grange Ave.  Vandalism.  A faculty member reported damage to a piece of student sculpture on display in the Center for Visual Arts. Sculpture was last known to be intact on July 20, 2014. Damaged was documented and an incident report was completed. Investigation continues.

  • 6:30 AM - Granskou Hall, 1025 W. 28th St.  911 Hang-Up Call.  SFPD and Campus Safety responded to a dormitory to investigate a 911 hang-up call. Building was searched without result. Incident report completed.
  • 2:28 AM - 720 W. 31st Street.  Driving Under the Influence.  Officer observed a vehicle driving erratically and at an extremely high speed on S. Norton Ave. Driver abandoned vehicle, fled and was apprehended and turned over to SFPD who took charge of the investigation. Driver was arrested and transported to Minnehaha County Jail. Incident report completed.

  • 11:15 PM - Center for Visual Arts, 2120 S. Grange Ave.  Narcotics Violation,  Officer conducting building checks discovered drug paraphernalia in an art studio. Suspect was identified and paraphernalia was confiscated. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities for action.
  • 12:24 AM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Ave.  Illegal Entry.  Officers requested by SFPD to assist in search for three subjects who fled from a nearby arrest scene. Evidence discovered that a subject entered a campus building through a propped door. Building was cleared by SFPD and Campus Safety. Subject was determined to have fled out through another exit. Incident report completed.

  • 11:25 PM - Duluth Apartments, 2300 Block of S. Duluth Ave.  Suspicious Activity.  Officer conducting building checks observed a security door standing open and while investigating discovered a student occupied apartment door standing open. The apartment appeared to be unoccupied and the officer observed in plain sight a beer pong table. The apartment door and the security door were both closed and locked. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities.

  • 7:21 PM - Diversity House, 1000 W. 28th Street.  Fire Alarm.  Officers were dispatched to Campus owned property as a fire alarm had been activated.  Upon arrival at the scene Officers observed that the house had been evacuated.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue arrived.  There was no visible flames or smoke observed when SFFR arrived.  SFFR cleared the house and reset the fire alarm panel.  The alarm was activated as a result of a cooking accident.  Incident report completed.

  • 1:30 AM - Madsen Center Parking Lot, 2301 S. Summit Ave.  Public Urination / Drunkenness.  Officers observed an intoxicated male subject urinating in public and attempt to enter a car with intent of driving. Subject was confronted and required to make other arrangements for a ride home. Incident report completed.

  • 8:15 AM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2300 Block of S. Duluth Ave.  Fire Alarm.  Officers responded to an automated fire alarm in a campus apartment building. Source of alarm was determined to be cooking smoke. Building was reoccupied. Incident report completed.

  • 10:14 AM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Ave.  Bicycle Theft.  Student presented at Campus Safety to inquire about a missing bicycle. Bicycle last seen one month ago. Incident report completed.

  • 11:41 PM - Granskou Hall, 1025 W. 28th St.  Welfare Check.  Officers responded to a request to check on the welfare of a student. Student was located safe and well. Incident report completed.

  • 6:33 PM - 908 W. 28th St., Lookout House.  Bicycle Theft.  A student presented to the Office of Campus Safety and reported that the student's bicycle had been stolen.  Incident Report completed.

  • 3:21 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2334 S. Duluth Avenue.  Vandalism.  While on routine patrol Officers discovered a window screen had been removed from an apartment window well.  Also discovered was contraband from an incident that occurred on July 12th 2014.  Incident report completed.

  • 12:56 AM - Duluth Place Apartments. 2334 S. Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a fire alarm notification.  Officers responded to the location.  SFFR also responded.  SFFR located discharged fireworks on the second floor landing.  Witnesses were interviewed and suspects were identified.  Incident reported completed and forwarded to College Authorities.  Investigation continues.

  • 5:42 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a fire alarm and dispatched Officer to the location.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue also responded.  The building was cleared and no visible signs of flames or smoke was detected.  Painters were painting in the area and fumes from the paint were suspect in the alarm activation.  Incident report completed.
  • 5:56 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Vehicle Accident.  Minor accident occurred on the lot involving two vehicles.  Sioux Falls Police were notified and responded.  Red tags were issued.  Incident report completed.

  • 5:26 PM - Mikkelsen Library, 2117 S. Summit Avenue.  Visitor Assist.  Officers were called to assist a subject that had become lost.  Officers escorted the subject to where he was supposed to be.  Incident report completed.

  • 5:10 PM - Olsen House, 1020 W. 28 St.  Public Intoxication.  Officers made contact with an intoxicated male found sleeping on the front lawn of campus property..  Officers asked the subject to leave campus property and the subject complied.  Campus Safety Officers called Sioux Falls Police to check the well being of the subject as he was very intoxicated.  Incident Report completed.

  • 10:25 PM - Ronken Baseball Field, 33rd St. and Covell Ave.  Athletic Injury.  Late report of an athletic injury field filed with Campus Safety. Victim was transported to a hospital emergency room via privately owned vehicle. Incident report completed.

  • 2:00 AM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2300 Block of Duluth Ave.  Party Nuisance / Alcohol Policy Violation.  Officer discovered a large amount of litter from a party on the front porch of a campus housing unit. Incident report completed.
  • 3:15 AM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Ave.  Vandalism.  Officer discovered intentional damage to a security light pole. Incident report completed.
  • 7:30 PM - Hillsboro House, 2400 Block S. Summit Ave.  Bicycle Theft.  Student reported to Campus Safety that their bicycle had been removed from a campus residential house some time within the last several weeks. Bicycle was not locked at the time it went missing. Incident report completed.
  • 10:55 PM - Vicinity of the Intersection at Summit Ave. and 33rd St.  Bicycle Accident with Injury.  Officer came upon an injured bicyclist in the roadway who reported a chain break resulting in the crash. Subject sustained cuts and bruises to the head and limbs. Medical attention was refused and subject departed the vicinity on foot. Incident report completed.

  • 1:40 AM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Ave.  Underage Consumption.  An officer made contact with two subjects behaving suspiciously and determined one of the subjects was intoxicated and in violation of College alcohol policy. Subjects identified and an incident report completed.
  • 3:50 AM -  2413 S. Duluth Ave.  Drunkenness.  An officer discovered a male subject unconscious in the front yard of a private home. Subject was unable to take responsibility for himself. SFPD responded and took appropriate action. Incident report completed.

  • 11:45 PM - Heritage House, 2510 S. Grange Ave.  Noise Disturbance, Party / Disorderly Conduct.  Officers made contact with the residents of a campus residential house regarding a noisy party. Residents were warned and instructed to reduce the number of guests in compliance with College policy. One subject became disorderly while departing and refused to comply with Campus Safety instructions. SFPD responded and subject was identified and ordered off campus. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities for action.

  • 6:15 AM - Gilbert Science Center, 2407 S. Summit Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident.  Campus Safety and SFPD responded to a non injury accident.  SFPD issued a red tag.  Incident report completed.
  • 11:25 AM - Humanities Center, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  911 Hang Up.  Officers responded to a 911 call where the caller did not respond to a call back from the dispatcher.  Officers located the 911 caller.  Everything was alright and no further follow up was required.  Incident report completed.

  • 10:25 PM - Intersection of 28th St. and Summit Ave.  Public Intoxication.  Officers made contact with a intoxicated male subject attempting to cross the campus on foot. Subject was directed around the campus perimeter and complied.

  • 10:30 PM - Stavig Hall, 1101 W. 28th St.  Laser Light Assault.  A Campus Safety officer was conducting vehicle patrol when a green laser light was directed at his eyes. Origin of the laser was pinpointed to a specific room in Stavig Hall and contact was made with the residents. Residents were identified and an incident report was completed.

  • 4:00 PM - Sioux Falls Seminary, 2100 S. Summit Ave.  Damage to Private Vehicle.  Officer responded to a report that the window of a private vehicle parked in the Seminary lot was broken when a rock was thrown by a lawnmower. Damaged was documented for insurance purposes. Incident report completed.

  • 5:10 PM - Theater, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Medical Emergency.  Officers responded along with Rural Metro Ambulance and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue to a reported non student that became unresponsive.  The victim was evaluated on scene by Paramedics.  No transport was required.  Incident Report completed.

  • 4:59 PM - Global Education House, 2001 S. Norton Ave.  Vandalism.  Campus Safety officers responded to a report of a broken window at a campus residential house. Damage determined to be intentional and incident report completed.

  • 1:40 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a fire alarm notification and dispatched Officers.  When Officers arrived smoke had filled the kitchen area.  A student had left cooking food unattended and returned to the kitchen when the alarm sounded.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue arrived on scene.  The fire alarm panel was reset by SFFR.  Incident Report completed.

  • 8:00 PM - Off-Campus, intersection of 33rd and Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident.  Officers came upon a two vehicle accident.  Officers provided traffic control after checking on drivers and passengers for injuries.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, police, and Rural Metro Ambulance responded.  The incident was turned over to SFPD for further investigation.  Incident Report completed.

  • 8:38 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2300 Block of S. Duluth Ave.  Fire Alarm.  Officers responded to a fire alarm in a campus apartment complex. SFFR also responded and determined the cause of the alarm to be cooking smoke. SFFR authorized the premises to be reoccupied. Incident report completed.

  • 11:06 AM - Intersection of 33rd St. and Grange Ave.  Motor Vehicle Accident with Injury.  Officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving an overturned vehicle. A medical doctor in the vicinity provided initial medical treatment to the injured party while Campus Safety officers performed traffic control. SFPD, SFFR and ambulance responded and injured party was transported to a hospital emergency room.
  • 10:00 PM - Granskou Hall, 1025 W. 28th St.  Vandalism.  Officer discovered a campus traffic control sign pulled from the ground and removed from location. Maintenance notified and an incident report was completed.

  • 1:53 AM - East Hall, 2001 S. Summit Avenue.  Drunkenness / Alcohol Policy Violation.  Officers observed a severely intoxicated student  enter a dormitory and made arrangements with Residence Life for a welfare check. The student was contacted and it was confirmed that the student was intoxicated.  Officers made arrangements with one of the student's friends to monitor the intoxicated student for the remainder of the night.  Incident Report completed.
  • 6:45 PM - East Hall, 2001 S. Summit Avenue.  Well-being Check. Officers were contacted by Residence Life Staff to assist staff member with a student well-being check.  Welfare check was completed.  Incident Report completed.
  • 8:37 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2300 Block of S. Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Officers responded to a fire alarm reported by Midwest Alarm Services.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue also responded.  It was determined that the alarm was activated as a result of a cooking accident.  SFFR reset the alarm.  Incident Report completed.

  • 12:22 PM - Gilbert Science Center, 2407 S. Summit Avenue.  Bicycle Theft.  Student reported theft of a bicycle from an academic building bicycle rack. Bicycle was not locked at the time of the theft. Incident report completed.
  • 8:40 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2300 Block of South Duluth Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Officers responded to a fire alarm at a campus apartment complex. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched and authorized reoccupation. It was determined the alarm was triggered when a stove was turned on while cleaning product containers were setting on top of the stove. Incident report completed.
  • 11:10 PM - Tuve Hall, 1109 W. 28th Street.  Suspicious person.  Officer on patrol observed an intoxicated male subject attempting to gain entry to a dormitory building. The subject was identified, interviewed and determined to be lost. Subject was escorted to the edge of campus and provided with directions. Incident report completed.
