According to federal law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, i.e. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition if any of the following conditions apply:

  • The disclosure is prohibited by law
  • If the disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim
  • If disclosure would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual
  • If disclosure would cause a suspect to flee or evade detection
  • If disclosure would result in the destruction of evidence

  • 1:50 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Well-Being Check.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a request to check on the well-being of a student. Residence Life assisted and the student was located safe and well. Incident report completed.

  • 11:15 PM - 2001 S. Grange Avenue.  Fight Disturbance.  Officers conducting patrol observed two male subjects involved in a fight disturbance and intervened. Neither subject was affiliated with the University. One subject fled in a vehicle and officers made contact with the other to assure his well-being. Subject alleged that something was stolen from his vehicle. Fight suspected to be related to a narcotics dispute. SFPD responded and took appropriate action. Incident report completed.

  • 9:24 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  A concerned parent contacted the Office of Campus Safety and reported that they had not heard from their student in a week and requested Campus Safety to make contact with the student.  The student was later found safe.  Incident report completed.

Monday, April 25, 2016

  • 3:50 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Theft.  A student reported the theft of $700.00 cash from a dormitory room. The room was unlocked at the time of the theft. Incident report completed and investigation continues.
  • 4:05 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Hit and Run Vehicle Accident.  A student reported that their vehicle had suffered damage to the vehicle bumper while parked in a dormitory parking lot. Damaged was documented and an incident report was completed.

  • 1:10 AM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Public Urination.  An officer conducting foot patrol encountered a student urinating in public outside of a residence hall. Subject was identified and an incident report was completed.

  • 12:15 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Possible Vandalism.  Residence Life staff reported to Campus Safety that a glass door in an entryway had been broken. Responsible party was identified and an investigation into the circumstances continues. Incident report completed.

  • 8:25 AM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Fire Alarm.  University Building and Grounds workers advised Campus Safety of an active fire alarm in a dormitory. The alarm was inadvertently triggered by Housekeeping staff. The alarm was reset after it was confirmed there was no smoke or fire. Incident report completed.

  • 3:52 PM - Stavig Hall, 2008 S. Walts Avenue.  Bike Theft.  Student presented to the Office of Campus Safety and reported that their bike had been stolen.  Information documented.  Incident report completed.

  • 6:10 PM - Morrsion  Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Personal Injury.  A student presented at Campus Safety to report an injury while working in the theater shop. Officers provided first aid and documented the injury. Further medical assistance was declined. Incident report completed.

Saturday, April 16, 2016

  • 10:30 PM - Schoeneman Apartments, 1417 W. 33rd Street.  Noise Disturbance, Party / Drug Law Violations / Underage Consumption / Disorderly Conduct.  Officers conducting patrol observed heavy foot traffic, including underage students, in and out of a University apartment building where a large party was in progress. Upon investigation a strong odor of marijuana was detected. Residence Life responded as officers were clearing the apartment. One of the residents refused instructions and became disorderly. Officers cleared the apartment of in excess of 90 guests. Incident report completed and forwarded to University authorities for action.

  • 10:02 PM - Costello Hall, 2413 S. Grange Avenue.  Slip and Fall Injury.  A resident of a University apartment building requested officers respond to a slip and fall injury in an apartment. Fall attributed to water leaking from a refrigerator. Medical assistance refused, response requested for documentation purposes only. Incident report completed.

  • 4:00 PM - Mikkelsen Library, 2117 S. Summit Avenue.  Suspcious Person.  Officers were dispatched to the library to investigate a report of a person behaving suspiciously. Subject was identified and left the library voluntarily. Faculty verified that his business on campus was legitimate and subject was released. Incident report completed.

  • 6:20 PM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2300 Block of S. Duluth Avenue.  Vandalism.  An officer conducting foot patrol discovered a damaged security entrance. The door frame was splintered where someone had attempted to force the door. Incident report completed.

  • 11: 30 AM - Humanities Center, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Vehicle Tow.  Officer observed a vehicle parked in violation of University parking policy.  The vehicle was cited.  The Officer discovered that the vehicle had multiple parking citations issued to the the vehicle and was listed on the Departments Tow list as a result of the multiple parking violations.  Jim & Ron's Towing was contacted and responded to the location.  Jim & Ron's removed the vehicle from Campus and impounded the vehicle at their facility.

  • 12:55 AM - Terning House, 1919 S. Walts Avenue. Break-In / Burglary.  An officer was dispatched to investigate a report of a break-in to a University residential house. Residents returned home to find the front door forced open. SFPD responded and initiated an investigation. Maintenance responded and repaired the damaged door. Incident report completed.

  • 3:56 PM - Bergsaker Parking Lot, 1109 W. 33rd Street.  Vehicle Unauthorized Entry / Burglary.  A student presented at Campus Safety to report a vehicle break-in on a University parking lot. The vehicle was ransacked and a flashlight was taken. SFPD responded and took a report. The incident was captured on security video which was turned over to SFPD. Video indicates suspects gained access through an unlocked door. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

  • 1:55 AM - Duluth Place Apartments, 2300 Block of S. Duluth Avenue.  Graffiti Vandalism.  An officer conducting foot patrol discovered graffitti on the exterior wall of a University apartment building. SFPD responded to document the damage. Incident report completed and the investigation continues.
  • 4:07 PM - Heuther Tennis Courts, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Public Nuisance.  METRO Communications requested DCS officers investigate a report of a group of 10-12  juveniles climbing the tennis court fences. Officers dispersed the children and spoke with one of the parents about the children needing adult supervision while on campus. Incident report completed.

  • 12:00 PM - Edith Mortenson Center, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident, Hit and Run.  A student contacted DCS Dispatch to report that a vehicle attempting to park in a campus parking lot had struck their vehicle and then left without stopping to report the incident. A witness was able to obtain the license plate of the subject vehicle. SFPD responded, initiated an investigation and issued a red tag. Incident report completed.

  • 9:00 AM-  Stavig Hall, 2008 S. Walts Avenue.  Emergency Medical Call.  DCS Disptach was notified of an emergency medical situation in a dormitory. An officer responded along with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue. Victim was transported to a hospital emergency room for treatment.

  • 11:34 PM - Summit Avenue Apartments - 2420 S. Summit Avenue.  Noise Disturbance, Party.  Officers responded to a complaint of a loud party in a University apartment building and made contact with the residents of the apartment in question. Residents were cooperative and agreed to lower the noise level. Incident report complete.

  • 6:25 PM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Theft.  A student presented at Campus Safety to report the theft of a wallet from a training room. Wallet was unattended and not secured at the time of the theft. Incident report completed.
  • 9:49 PM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  911 Hang-Ups Calls.  SFPD responded to the Commons to investigate several 911 hang-up calls. The caller was located and it was determined a possible technical issue was responsible for the calls. The owner of the cell phone was ordered by SFPD to turn off the telephone until the problem was resolved. Incident report completed.

  • 11:00 AM - Duluth Apartments, 2300 Block of S. Duluth Avenue.  Bicycle Theft.  A student reported to Campus Safety that a bicycle had been stolen from a University apartment complex. The bicycle was locked at the time of the theft. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

  • 6:21 PM - Hillsboro House, 2408 S. Summit Avenue.  Vandalism.  DCS Dispatch was notified and officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a broken window in a University residential house. Incident was witnessed by a passerby on Tuesday but not reported until Saturday. Subjects were described as several juveniles. Incident report completed and maintenance was notified.

  • 12:10 AM - Ronken Baseball Field, 33rd Street and Euclid Avenue.  Vandalism.  An Officer was dispatched to the baseball field to investigate an incident of vandalism. An incident report was completed and security camera video is being reviewed. Video indicates a University employee witnessed the incident but failed to report it.
  • 2:00 AM - Humanities Center, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Possible Narcotics Violation.  An officer conducting a security check detected a marijuana odor. A witness was interviewed and an incident report was completed. Investigation continues. 
  • 7:50 PM - Nelson Service Center, 2021 S. Menlo Avenue.  Vandalism.  An officer on patrol discovered vandalism. Damage was documented and an incident report completed.

  • 11:30 AM -Parking Lot at 28th Street and Menlo Avenue.  Vandalism.  An officer on patrol observed graffiti on a stop sign in the parking lot. Incident report completed.
  • 7:43 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Vandalism / Harassment.  Residence Life personnel requested an officer respond to a dormitory to investigate the posting of inflammatory religious and political material. Evidence was collected and an incident report was completed. Investigation continues.

  • 4:20 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Posting of Prohibited Material on Campus Property.  A student presented to the Office of Campus safety and reported that they had found posted material hanging on the walls of the 4th floor dayroom and bathrooms.  Incident report completed.
  • 8:35 PM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Attempt to Locate.  Campus Life Staff presented to the Office of Campus Safety and reported that they were attempting to locate a student and requested Campus Safety assistance.  Officers and Campus Life began searching the campus.  The student was later located and was safe.  Incident report completed.

  • 3:20 PM - Madsen Social Science Center, 2301 S. Summit Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident, Non-Injury. Drivers of two vehicles were simultaneously backing out of opposing spaces when they struck each other. SFPD responded and issued red tags. Incident report completed and photographs of damage were taken.

  • 5:03 AM - Stavig Hall, 2008 S. Walts Avenue.  Medical Emergency Call.  DCS Dispatch received a call from a student requesting medical assistance. Officers responded and transported the student to a hospital emergency room for further evaluation. Incident report completed.

  • 12:16 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue.  Theft.  A student presented to the Office of Campus Safety and reported that they had cash taken from their room.  Incident report completed.  Investigation continues.

  • 11:24 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Noise Complaint.  Officers were dispatched to investigate a noise complaint.  Officers responded but were unable to locate any source of noise.  Officers remained on scene for some time but did not hear any loud noise.  Incident report completed.

  • 7:20 PM - Edith Mortenson Center, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus safety Officers and SFFR responded to the Theater area after a fire alarm activation.  A fog machine being used in the theater caused the smoke detectors to activate the fire alarm system.  SFFR reset the fire panel and used large fans to remove the remaining fog.  Incident report completed.

  • 11: 17 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street.  Trespassing.  Officers observed a suspicious older male walking on campus. Officers followed the subject and made contact as he was loitering in a dormitory entrance. Subject was determined to be unaffiliated with the University and detained until SFPD arrived. SFPD interviewed the subject and took him into custody. Incident report completed.
  • 11:46 PM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  False Reporting.  A student telephoned Campus Safety Dispatch and filed a false report in an attempt to divert officers from an ongoing incident. An officer later responded and identified the student. Incident report completed.

  • 7:00 AM - Elmen Center Parking Lot, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Hit and Run Vehicle Accident.  METRO Communications requested DCS officers assist SFPD with a motor vehicle accident accident investigation in a University parking lot. Witnesses were interviewed and the owner of the struck vehicle was notified. Incident report completed.
  • 1:46 AM - Chapel of Reconciliation, 2125 S. Summit Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  DCS Dispatch received an automated fire alarm from the chapel and dispatched officers and SFFR to investigate. No flame or smoke was located and the source of the alarm was determined to be an alarm system error. SFFR reset alarm system and an incident report was completed.

  • 9:45 AM - Humanities Center, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Emergency Medical Assistance.  Officers were dispatched to assist with a guest who had fallen ill. SFFR and an ambulance also responded and victim was transported to a hospital emergency room for treatment. Incident report completed.

  • 9:15 PM - Stavig Hall, 2008 S. Walts Avenue.  Vandalism.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a phone report of vandalism on University property.  An Officer responded to the scene and located the reported vandalism.  Graffiti had been painted on the wall of the building.  Pictures were taken and SFPD was called to take a report.  Incident report completed.

  • 3:20 PM - Diversity Experience House, 1923 S. Prairie Avenue.  Fire Alarm.  Campus Safety Dispatch received a fire alarm notification on the alarm system and notified Officers to respond to the location given.  SFFR also responded.  When Officers arrived they were met by one of the residents and the resident advised that they were boiling water and the alarm went off.  SFFR arrived on scene and completed a walk thru of the house.  SFFR reset the alarm panel.  Incident report completed.
  • 4:00 PM - Edith Mortenson Center, 2112 S. Grange Avenue.  Hit & Run Vehicle Accident.  A victim of a hit & run accident presented to the Office of Campus Saffety and reported that their vehicle had received damage while parked on the lot.  Officer recorded vehicle information and took pictures of the vehicle damage.  Incident report completed.

  • 9:00 AM - Humanities Center Parking Lot, 2120 S. Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident, Non-Injury.  A driver attempting to park in a designated space, struck an unoccupied vehicle in an adjoining space. SFPD responded and issued red tags. Incident report completed.
  • 3:15 PM - Elmen Center Parking Lot, 2505 S. Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident, Non-Injury.  A driver attempting to back out of a parking space struck an unoccupied vehicle parked in a designated space. Damage to both vehicles was minimal and did not require a police response. Incident report completed.
  • 5:45 PM - Intersection of 33rd Street and Grange Avenue.  Motor Vehicle Accident, Non-Injury.  A driver traveling east on 33rd Street attempted to make a left hand turn onto Grange Avenue crossed the center line and obstructed through traffic. A vehicle traveling west on 33rd Street stopped to allow the first vehicle to safely complete the turn and was struck from behind by a third vehicle. The third vehicle was in turn struck from behind by a fourth vehicle. All west bound vehicles sustained slight to moderate damage while the first vehicle continued north bound on Grange Avenue, leaving the area. SFPD responded and issued red tags. Incident report completed.

  • 12:00 AM - Diversity Experience House, 1923 S. Prairie Avenue.  Noise Disturbance, Party.  Residence Life and Officers investigated a report of loud noise and determined a party in a University residential house was the source. Officers assisted the residents in clearing uninvited guests. Incident report completed.
  • 3:30 AM - Granskou Parking Lot, 2009 S. Prairie Avenue.  Drunkenness.  An officer made contact to check on an intoxicated student. Student became disorderly and was assisted back to their residence by friends. Incident report completed.
