Project Summary: "Connecting to the Community Through Faith," through learning about others' beliefs and ideals, plans to gather different perspectives on faith and provide a forum where individuals can share their faiths and beliefs while feeling secure and free from judgment. Students will worship, converse, and pray with inmates at the SD State Penitentiary.

Project Summary: Because children have an unparalleled way of impacting those close to them, “Helping Children, Help Us” will focus primarily on working with children. Through volunteer commitments at Sanford Health, Children's Care Hospital and School, Children's Miracle Network, and the Augustana Dance Marathon, students will participate in fundraising and serve as baby rockers, pediatric companions, and classroom aides.

Project Summary: "Students Karing About Others" will utilize their individual talents to work collectively with the homeless population in Sioux Fallls. Students plan to  volunteer individually at Laura Wilder Elementary School, Sioux Falls People For Youth, Avera McKennan NICU, and The Good Samaritan Society. The primary focus of STKAO is serving at the Banquet at least once a month in addition to participating in "Trick or Treating for Canned Goods" and making tie blankets for the Salvation Army.

Project Summary: “Global Education House” will focus on fighting hunger in Cameroon. They plan to have a number of fundraisers and will serve at the Banquet. Students will also be adopting a refugee family through Lutheran Social Services.

Project Summary: “Augie BIGS” is a group of dedicated, passionate and faithful students whose mission is to better the lives of underprivileged children. Their primary focus is to be associated with the Big Brother Big Sister organization.  Students will invite their mentees to family-friendly campus events, such as sporting events and performances, and other activities in the community, in addition to regular get-togethers.

Project Summary: Students of “Hearts Devoted to Harmony” seek to bring optimism to the children at Bowden Youth Center. They will provide music lessons to underprivileged children at Bowden Youth Center and by volunteering, allow the Music Room at the Center to be open on a weekly basis. They are planning a Karaoke Night on campus to raise funds for the Bowden Youth Center.

Project Summary: “Kids Can” hopes to invest in the future by setting an example for adolescents in the community as role models. Students plan to serve as active members of FRIENDSLink, participate in Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sioux Empire, mentor in the Sioux Falls School District, volunteer at the Sanford NICU, and volunteer at The Bridge, a shelter for homeless women and children.

Project Summary: “Christian Youth Connection" house will work to form positive, safe, and supportive relationships with youth in the Augustana College community. The house will serve as a location for  fun, faith and fellowship. Students plan to volunteer with Lutheran Social Services, Laura Wilder Elementary, YMCA, and the Sanford NICU in addition to hosting a Young Life dance in the Back Alley and raising funds for the Bowden Youth Center.

Project Summary: “Diversity in a Changing World” will strive to achieve the goals outlined in the mission of the Multi-Cultural Center of Sioux Falls: “to provide opportunities for all people to learn, celebrate, and share through cultural experiences.” Their primary service project is an after school mentorship program through the Multi-Cultural Center. They will promote diversity awareness on campus by managing one of the display cases in the Morrison Commons and plan to invite a guest speaker to campus from the Multi-Cultural Center in partnership with UBG Culture/Fine Arts.

Students plan to raise funds for MS research and donate money to an MS marthon charity, run an informational booth in the Commons, and participate in the Multiple Sclerosis walk in Sioux Falls.

Students plan to raise funds for the Sioux Falls Food Shelf during athletic events, sponsor a child through the international program Feed My Starving Children, serve a meal for the resident of The St. Francis House, and participate in the Backpack Program through Feeding South Dakota.

Project Summary: “Healthy Habits for a Healthy Habitat: A Strive for Sustainability” strives to establish personal and community habits that will set in motion a new generation that desires to care for the earth as it cares for us. Students plan to care for the Augie Garden and will donate produce from the garden to the Banquet. Their hope is to make Nordland a sustainable house permanently. Students plan to host garden parties where fresh vegetables and eco-friendly drinks will be served.  They will sponsor a Race to Reduce activity and award a prize to the residence hall, floor, or building that uses the least energy in a given week. They will also provide opportunities for car pooling, education on reusable water bottles, and aluminum over plastic.

Project Summary: "Combatting Childhood Obesity" focuses on preventing obesity in its earliest stages and encouraging a healthy lifestyle. Students plan to organize events to promote child health in conjunction with the YMCA and Boy Scouts, start a Relay for Life team, and participate as time keepers/judges for middle and high school track and field events.

Project Summary: “Refuse to Abuse: Empowering Women in Our Community” will focus on encouraging autonomy and strength in women in the Sioux Falls community and raising awareness about domestic abuse in its many forms. Students plan to bring in a self defense instructor and a speaker from Children's Inn, team up with SALT's Christmas Giving program, and raise awareness for Children's Inn through the volunteer fair in the spring. Students will also volunteer at Children's Inn.

Project Summary: “Freely We've Received, Freely We Give” will work with the impoverished and homeless in the Sioux Falls community. Students plan to serve meals at the St. Francis House, fast the first Monday of each month and donate the money that would otherwise be used for meals to the St. Francis House, and holding a clothing drive.

Project Summary: “Building Community One Piece at a Time” aspires to connect people together through small gatherings to help build relationships. Students hope to bring to campus the concept of Fika (fee-ka), a social institution in Sweden referring to a break, most often a coffee break, with a colleague, friend, date, or relative. In addition to holding "Fika Fridays," the students will volunteer at Laura Wilder Elementary and Trial Ridge.

Students plan to develop this discussion group and hold monthly discussions, connect with Interfaith Youth Core, and collect submissions of poetry, sculptures, paintings, and photography to display in Augustana's academic buidings.
