If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring the beautiful Lofoten Islands of Norway, the Center for Western Studies invites you to join us Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. when former South Dakota State Senator Tom Dempster will share his experiences navigating this stunning landscape by boat.

As part of the CWS Occasional Series, Saturdays at CWS, Dempster will present a film he created documenting his voyage and the echoes of author Ole Rölvaag he found along the way. The beautiful imagery he captures in this film, combined with its accompanying poetic narrative, creates a dreamscape only a photographer and writer of Dempster’s caliber could produce.

Tom Dempster is a director of IFAM Capital in Sioux Falls. In addition to four terms as a South Dakota State Senator, his years in public service include stints as Minnehaha County Commissioner, chair of Avera McKennan Board of Trustees, and chair of Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota. Dempster’s book “North of 12th Street,” was a finalist for Note Word’s book of the year, and his photography has been published in Sailing Magazine, the International Herald Tribune, and USA Today.
