Augustana’s 149th Commencement Ceremony
SIOUX FALLS – Augustana College’s 149th Commencement Ceremony was held on Sunday, May 24, at the Sioux Falls Arena.

The Rev. Larry Peterson gave the commencement address and received the Honorary Degree of Humane Letters. Rev. Peterson, who retired in 2008, is the founder and director of the Lutheran Retreat Center on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Sara Eiesland from Brandon, S.D., spoke on behalf of the graduating class. “Voice and Responsibility” was the title of her talk. She is the daughter of Patty and Joel Eiesland.

Dr. Julie Ashworth, assistant professor of education, received the Vernon and Mildred Nieburh Faculty Excellence Award; Dr. David O’Hara, assistant professor of religion/philosophy/classics, received the Jane and Charles Zaloudek Faculty Research Fellowship; and Dr. John Pennington, professor of music, received the Carol Bland Cultivating Faculty Excellence Endowment.
