Congregational Outreach & Liturgical Arts
Augustana College understands it has a mission to the church. Making that mission tangible is the task of the Office of Congregational Outreach & Liturgical Arts.
Outreach Ministry teams are a primary link from Augustana to congregations. Teams of students bring worship and youth gatherings to area churches throughout the year. On campus, students and community members are offered a variety of worship, ministry, and volunteer opportunities.
In mid-February, Augustana students host Faith Fest, an annual youth gathering. Young people from congregations in a four-state area and their adult leaders come to campus for a weekend to enjoy music and keynote presentations, Bible study and worship, games and recreational activities.
The Hovland Center for Liturgical Art at Augustana connects area churches, clergy, visual and performing artists and architects through networking and education. The Center is gathering photographs to document the visual art of churches in the area. The cross shown here is one example on campus. It was created by Dale Claude Lamphere and hangs on the west exterior wall of the Chapel of Reconciliation.
Augustana’s Luther House of Study, a partnership with Sioux Falls Seminary, provides a Luther scholar to impact both students and congregations; educates, supports, and encourages seminarians and undergraduates; and offers a variety of educational opportunities to lay leaders and congregations. In February 2009, Luther House of Study launched a clergy renewal program in the South Dakota Synod ELCA called "Together in Ministry South Dakota."
Augustana College is owned by the Augustana College Association. All ELCA congregations in South Dakota, Nebraska, Southwest Minnesota, and Western Iowa synods are members. Each synod sends delegates to the annual meeting in early December where they elect new members of the Board of Trustees.
