ART AND CHILDREN

Art and Children is a course that places emphasis on techniques, materials and methods of teaching art in the elementary school. The course is designed to meet the following goals:

1. The student will become aware of the perceptual and expressive development of children as presented in the text. The text will serve a foundation on which the student can begin to develop a philosophy for teaching art.

2. The student will be exposed to a wide variety of materials and techniques combined with methods for instruction in an elementary school setting.

3. The student will have extensive exposure to making lesson plans for art activities.

4. The student will work on bulletin board design and composition throughout the semester.

5. Classroom safety instruction with respect to ALL tools, materials and techniques will be provided for students BEFORE THE STUDENTS PROCEED WITH ANY ACTIVITY.
