SECONDARY ART EDUCATION METHODS

Education 310K is a course that will familiarize the student with fundamental ideas necessary to understand, teach, plan and develop discipline-based art education methods and models, which exhibit four primary focuses:

1. History - the study of various eclectic and exotic cultural styles

2. Criticism - conversations about art, its purpose and judgements concerning value.

3. Design - the "language" of art - the ingredients, elements and organizing principles of art

4. Studio Production - "hands-on" production, exploring personal aesthetics and studio safety

This course will provide a working model that satisfies the South Dakota Department of Education and Cultural Affairs standards for teaching art in public school. The course will give the student the opportunity to become involved in "hands-on" experiences with Discipline-Based Art Education.
