Steve Thomas
received his MFA from the University of South Dakota and did post graduate
work at the University of Minnesota, Florence, Italy with Christina Mifsud,
Great Britain and France. A prolific national exhibition record includes
most recently: Augustana Faculty Show, 2001; Second Major Marble Collaboration,
Sioux Steel Company, Sioux Falls, SD, 1998-2002; Installed marble carving
titled Embrace, Minneapolis, MN, 1998; Installed "Requiem", Larkspur,
CA, 1997; South Dakota Art Faculty Exhibition, SD Art Museum, Brookings,
SD, 1996. Steve taught courses in France and England for the Upper Midwest
Association for Intercultural Education in January 1996 to 1999. He has
also been published numerous times in ART NOW, Minneapolis, MN, concerning
his work in sculpture. Most of Steve's works are focused in the ideals of Post-Modern Sculpture dealing with the elements of time and space. Known best for his monumental public sculpture, (Sea Dream a steel work in Sioux Falls, SD, Requiem, another steel work in Larkspur, CA and Embrace, a marble carving in Minneapolis, MN) Thomas teaches welding, carving and bronze casting at Augustana College. He considers himself a teacher and an artist and maintains a studio in the Sioux Steel Company in Sioux Falls. In addition to his works in public places, he works continuously on private commissions and has received several awards for his work. |
