CAATE Site Visit
Our ATEP recently participated in a CAATE Site Visit to analyze the educational effectiveness of our program. The Site Visit was conducted January 20-22, 2008. 2. The strong support of College Administration, Physicians and ACIs to the mission of the ATEP.
  3. Dedicated administrative assistant provided by the ATEP clerical secretary.
  4. Efficient didactic and clinical staff to student ratio.
  5. On campus and off campus clinical sites provide excellent opportunities for student experiential learning.
  6. The mentor program fosters peer learning across all levels of the curriculum.
  7. Medical professionals involvement with didactic and clinical education.
  8. The highly visible and generous support of the Sanford NORTH Center.

TEAM PHYSICIANS
Dr. Brad Baker (team orthopedic surgeon) has resigned his position with Sanford Orthopedic and Sports Medicine and Augustana College to pursue other career opportunities. We thank him for his time, efforts and expertise in providing sports medicine services to the Augie athletic family over the years and wish him well in his future pursuits. Dr. Paul Reynen will now serve as our primary team orthopedic surgeon. As Medical Director, Dr. Scott Boyens will now serve more of a leadership role in coordinating the health care services of our athletic department. We look forward to our improved relations with Dr. Boyens and with working with Dr. Reynen as our team orthopedist.

NEW ATC POSITION CREATED
A new full time certified athletic training position has been approved for the 2008-09 academic year. Our ATEP will now have four full time certified athletic trainers. This new position will allow us to improve the quality of health care services we are able to deliver to our athletes as well as to provide numerous benefits to our ATEP.

NEW VIKING MASCOT
Augustana College now has a new Viking mascot. The old Ole Viking mascot has been replaced with a more competitive traditional looking Viking. To check out our new mascot go to www.goaugie.com.

NEW ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
The North Central Conference (NCC) will be no longer. Augustana College will now become a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) beginning the fall athletic season of the 2008-09 academic year.

ATHLETIC RENOVATION PROJECT
The Augie Athletic Facility Site Plan is now a reality. The College has announced extensive plans to make improvements to our outdoor athletic practice and competition sites. The College recently completed a $4.2 million Hall Football Complex and Sanford Gymnasium addition to the south of the Elmen Center. The Bill Hall Football complex has now been renovated and is now the Bill Hall Baseball and Softball complex. This $40,000 project includes batting cages, areas for pitching and fielding and a club house for the baseball and softball players. The most dynamic expansion of athletic facilities includes the construction of the $10 million Kirkeby-Over Football Stadium on-campus. Current plans call for completion in November 2008 or spring 2009. The first game in the 6,000 seat stadium is scheduled for September 5, 2009. The field playing surface will be recessed six feet to create a bowl appearance and the stadium will include two-level suites and a Daktronics video scoreboard which will show live video and instant replay from numerous camera angles throughout the stadium. $2 million has been designated for construction of a new soccer field and track on the east side of Grange Avenue. Regular season soccer games will be played on-campus beginning September 2009.
