Geography 113: Mission: Possible-The Earth Science Curriculum and You

Mission: Possible was funded by a Mission to Planet Earth grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The intention was to provide students with:

  • Hands-on training with NASA curriculum support materials at Johnson Space Center
  • An introduction to basic Image Processing
  • An introduction to the Interactive Multi-media technology resource The Voyages of the Mimi (an integrated set of concepts which involves students in math, science, social studies, and language arts within an earth science context
  • A field trip to Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas

Mission: Possible was a project-based course taught in a workshop format with guest presenters from Johnson Space Center, Lockheed-Martin, Hernandez Engineering, and Computer Image Processing in Education. The course met the Earth and Space Science requirement for Middle School certification. Topics included - Plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, rocks and minerals, flight, rocketry, space exploration, and shuttle photography interpretation.
