This small business management internship was completed at Breadsmith in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The internship encompassed management experiences in operations, marketing, and administrative areas of a small business. Through observation and participation in the operations function of management, the total process of turning raw materials into a final product was discovered, as well as the tasks of scheduling personnel and managing inventory. The marketing aspect of the internship conveyed how a small business manages customer demand and generates sales. The administrative aspects of the internship incorporated cash management activities through understanding and direct involvement in daily deposits, liability payments, and payroll obligations. Overall the internship was beneficial and a personally enjoyable experience. It had many strengths including its hands-on emphasis, the magnitude of exposure to manager tasks and responsibilities, the small and casual working environment, and the insights it provided into production based business.
