Jenna Chaplin, Class of 2007
I interned with a local business attorney in Sioux Falls. The experience provided an opportunity to get a sense for a legal occupation and to determine if it would be a desirable career path for the future.
During the internship, I was able to research numerous issues for business clients, write memos, draft legal documents, find information at the courthouse, act as a witness to a will, and many other activities. It was an invaluable opportunity as it furthered my understanding of the law and small business law in particular.
I would recommend a legal internship for any student interested in going to law school or working within a legal setting. Not only does one learn about a legal career, but the value in making contacts with respected lawyers in the community is immeasurable.
