SIFE is a world wide nonprofit organization that gives students the tools to learn the free enterprise system in a real working situation. SIFE challenges students on more than 800 college campuses nationwide to take what they're learning in the classroom and use their knowledge to better their communities. Recent projects:Freshman Finance Students are often inundated with credit card applications when they start college. Our SIFE team has developed a Freshman Finance seminar and game to help explain the pitfalls of using too much credit. World Currency The team developed a game to explain foreign currencies and the difference in the cost of items from country to country. We have had our exchange students present information to 7th grade classes at Edison Middle School in the past. The kids listen to a lecture and then have the opportunity to take foreign money and travel to different countries and buy goods. Seniors and Mail Fraud Senior citizens are often targeted for mail fraud. Our team has developed a presentation for seniors to raise awareness regarding the types of things that they should be concerned about. Life Lessons The team prepared six weeks of workshops for homeless individuals at the St. Francis House. The workshops covered topics from computer skills to resume’ building and mock interviews. Business Plan One of the team members assisted an entrepreneur with her new business by writing a business plan for her. Our team usually meets on Sunday night at 9:00 in the Madsen Center. If you are interested in becoming a member please send us an email at augustanasife@yahoo.com. Faculty Advisor: Shelly Gardner |
