ABOUT
THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP
Scholars and majors form the core of the Augustana
Theatre Company. Theatre scholarship invites
students to develop leadership ability and to
learn through mentoring and hands-on application.
The
initial Apprentice award allows first year students
to explore and develop skills in the areas of
their choice. New students receive
their assignments after interviewing with faculty
and staff. Artisan awards are given to skilled
members of the company who can choose one focused
assignment per semester to hone their talents.
Awards are renewable annually through reapplication.
Sample
assignments have included: assistant costume,
light or set designer, props master, shop foreman,
master electrician, marketing
director, community events liason, makeup and
millinery design, mask design, improvisation
team coordinator, box office manager,
front-of-house manager, shop crew chiefs, playing
a large major role in a mainstage production.
Students with any major may be awarded theatre scholarship. We
encourage, but do not require, applicants to consider a theatre major or
minor as a way of enhancing their academic and cocurricular experience
in theatre.
AMOUNT
OF AWARDS
*
Apprentice: $1000
**
Artisan: $1250
Time
commitment varies by assignment. All students
on scholarship typically schedule weekly work
or production calls depending upon the requirements
of their assignments.
