Once you have completed the RAFT writing assignment, it is time to think about how you would assess this formal writing assignment.

To do this, we will explore the idea of using a rubric to evaluate the RAFT writing assignments. A rubric is a scoring guide which makes expectations explicit; rubrics include performance descriptions and make use of a rating scale.

Click here and here and here to learn more about rubrics or to review what you already may know.

Rubistar is a great website for creating rubrics. Start by clicking on the CREATE A NEW RUBRIC link and select the format that best fits your RAFT lesson--look at the options under PRODUCTS and RESEARCH & WRITING to find a format that best matches your RAFT writing assignment.

You should also visit the Roobrix website to consider how to appropriately convert a rubric score into a percentage and assign a letter grade.

You will be taken to a screen where you can select the categories for your rubric or make your own--you can also edit the performance descriptors or indicators as you wish.
