"Improving
Learning and Reducing Costs: New Models for Online Learning",
an article by Carol Twig in the Sept/Oct 2003 Educause.
She
reviews findings of institutions receiving Pew Course Redesign
Grants. Each of the 30 institutions receiving the grants, which
were for $200,000 each and were given to a variety of types of
institutions - research institutions, comprehensive universites,
private colleges, and community colleges - was required to "conduct
a rigorous evaluation focused on learning outcomes as measured
by student performance and achievement." She gives examples
of innovative methods that have resulted in reported learning
improvement and cost savings.
