Augustana College
has a long history with its orchestra program, dating back to the Town and Gown
Symphony which developed into the South Dakota Symphony. Since 1994 under the
direction of Dr. Scott Johnson,
the orchestra has grown steadily. Two concerts of traditional and contemporary
chamber music, culminating in the annual Concerto-Aria Concert, are performed.
The orchestra is comprised of all string students at the college as well as
several woodwinds, brass, and percussion students. Instrumentation is determined
on an "as needed" semester basis by the conductor.
