Communication is at the core of people's relationships, their ability to exercise influence over others, their effectiveness in the work place, and their perceptions of the world in which they live. Communication competence is an intrinsic feature of functional literacy in contemporary society and serves the individual in a variety of contexts from intimate-interpersonal, small group-to public-corporate, media-settings.
