Music has been an integral part of a liberal arts education for centuries and Augustana College proudly carries that philosophy into the 21st century. The rich musical traditions of the Lutheran Church form the foundation upon which Augustana has built a music program that encompasses a wide range of musical endeavors. Students study the history and theory of music, develop a variety of performance abilities, apply their knowledge and skills in individual and group performances, and frequently present those performances in regional, national, and international venues. This is all done within the framework of a liberal arts education that is committed to the development of the whole person: spirit, mind, and body. The College offers a program with a high degree of flexibility. Students fashion their musical studies to fit their interests, and combine them with other degrees granted by the College.
