College/Community Concert Band in Anniversary Performance
SIOUX FALLS – The Augustana College/Community Concert Band celebrates its 20th anniversary in concert on May 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Elmen Center.
Sioux Falls Mayor Dave Munson has proclaimed May 14, 2009, as Augustana College and Community Band Day. The ensemble was founded in the fall of 1989 by Dr. Bruce Ammann, professor of music at Augustana. Twenty-five people attended the first rehearsal. Today, the College and Community Concert Band has more than 100 members.
Also performing during the anniversary concert are the Augustana Band and the Augustana Wind Ensemble. The concert is free and open to the public. A reception follows the performance.
The Augustana Band and Wind Ensemble are under the direction of Dr. Ammann. The College/Community Concert Band is under the direction of Dr. Paul Schilf.

The Augustana Wind Ensemble performance includes:

Serenade for Solo Alto Saxophone and Band by Frank Bencriscutto. This piece features Augustana senior Katie Doohen (Sioux Falls).
The Augustana Band performance includes the following selections:

King Karl King March by Henry Fillmore
Bugler’s Holiday by L:eroy Anderson. This selection features trumpet members Luke Tatge (Benson, MN), Rachel McAllister (Cottage Grove, MN), and Christine Anderson (Waverly, IA).
The Elmen Center is located at the corner of 33rd Street and Grange Avenue on the Augustana campus.
