Augustana Students Participating in Archeology Days
SIOUX FALLS – The Prehistoric Indian Village in Mitchell, SD, is the featured attraction during Archeology Days, July 11-12, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Included are ongoing excavation and lab activities in the enclosed, air-conditioned Thomsen Center Archeodome, where students from Augustana and the University of Exeter, England, are participating in a field school through July 27. The students are mentored by Dr. L. Adrien Hannus, Director of Archaeological Laboratories at Augustana, and Professor Alan Outram from the University of Exeter.
Admission to the Prehistoric Indian Village, including the Archeodome and Boehnen Museum, is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors ages 60 and over, $4 for kids 6-8, and free for kids 5-and-under.
Archeologists and skilled artisans will be creating pottery, flint-knapping, and demonstrating other aspects of past cultures. Other activities include native technology demonstrations, exhibits on herbal, edible and medicinal uses of native plants, a kid’s dig, and making pottery using prehistoric techniques.
The site is located on Lake Mitchell, three miles north of the Corn Palace.
