Crumble - First Production of Season for Augustana Theatre
SIOUX FALLS – Augustana Theatre launches the 2009-10 season with the production of Sheila Callaghan's Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake). Dr. Julia Bennett, Associate Professor of Theatre, is the director.
Crumble has been described as “must see,” “don’t miss,” and “the best play you’ll see all year.” Take a strange young girl who asks for seven strange objects for Christmas, add a perpetually perplexed mother who bakes incessantly, and toss in a crumbling, mercurial apartment, and the road to redemption gets twisted, indeed.
A year has passed since the untimely death of Janice’s father. Struggling to cope, Janice is holding spiteful conversations with her dolls, and mother is suffering from panic attacks, with only her baking skills to keep her busy.
In their deteriorating apartment that continually begs for repairs, their only comforts are visitations from their respective celebrity crushes – Justin Timberlake and Harrison Ford. With the support of Justin’s affection, Janice begins to craft a plan that will mend the chasm in their lives. Meanwhile, the apartment is developing murderous plans of its own.
Cast members are Kelsey Acers (senior, Sioux Falls, SD) as the Apartment; Katharine Demke (junior, Bismarck, ND) as Janice; Will Dietzler (senior, Fargo, ND) as Justin Timberlake; Jacinta Sutphin (senior, Worden, MT) as the mother; Sonia Halbach (senior, Devils Lake, ND) as Barbara; and Casey Ring (junior, North Saint Paul, MN) as the father and Harrison Ford.
Performances are September 24-26 and October 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Edith Mortenson Center Theatre. A special midnight performance will be staged Friday, October 2. The performance on Friday, September 25, will be interpreted for the deaf and hard of hearing.
