Concert features Northlanders and All-City High School Jazz
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Department of Performing & Visual Arts at Augustana College announces a high-energy concert on Tuesday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Kresge Recital Hall.
Featured are the Northlanders Jazz Band and the All-City High School Jazz Band with special guest trumpeter, Jeff Jarvis, a Yamaha Performing Artist. Kresge Recital Hall is located in the Humanities Building at Augustana. Admission to the concert is $5 for all adults and free for students K-12.
The Northlanders Jazz Band performed this past summer on the main stage at JazzFest with Jarvis, a professional recording artist from Long Beach, CA. The Northlanders ensemble was founded in 1954 as a student-run organization. In 1965 Dr. Harold Krueger assumed leadership. Since then the Jazz Band has performed for many campus and community events as well as being featured with numerous guest soloists in the annual Jazz on the Upper Great Plains Festival. The Northlanders’ current director is Dr. Paul Schilf, now in his ninth year.
The All-City High School Jazz Band was started more than 12 years ago and is open to any Sioux Falls high school musician. This prestigious group only gathers once a year for this special concert and features the very best of Sioux Falls high school jazz students. The group is sponsored by the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society.
This year’s concert features lots of Latin-flavored jazz, sure to warm up the audience on a cold December night.
