Augustana Hosting World Food Tour to Support Haitian Relief

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Augustana’s International Programs and Sodexo, the College’s dining service provider, are hosting a special World Food Tour event featuring Chef Joaquín Suárez on Friday, February 26.

All proceeds from the meal, to be served at 6:30 p.m. in the Morrison Commons 3-in-1 room, go to the Lutheran World Relief Haiti Fund. Seating is limited. Tickets are $10 and will be available only online at www.augietickets.com.

The menu includes shrimp cocktail, fish ceviche, soup, grilled chicken, grilled pork, fish from the Caribbean, fried fish, and a vegetarian entrée. Lemon temptation will be served for dessert.

Chef Joaquín Suárez (shown in image above, right) brings over a decade of experience as a restaurant manager and executive chef to the Global Chef Program. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Suarez has worked at prestigious restaurants and hotels from his native Bogota to Quito to New York City and continues to share his culinary culture at home and abroad.

Chef Suárez joined Sodexo Columbia in 2001, where he is currently the national culinary trainer for Sodexo South America. He also serves as the Executive Chef of the Global Chef Program.

In addition to a fabulous menu, Chef Suárez will give a short presentation on the evening’s cuisine. Also, Dr. Cory Conover, assistant professor of history at Augustana, will present an overview and short history of Haiti.
