18th Annual Augustana Sam Milanovich Golf Tournament
SIOUX FALLS, SD – A shotgun start at noon on Friday, June 11, marks the beginning of the 2010 Augustana/Sam Milanovich Golf Tournament at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
The event, now in its 18th year, is named in honor of Sam Milanovich, who died of cancer in July 1992. He played basketball at Augustana, graduated in 1973, and is fondly remembered for his wit, competitiveness, and outgoing nature.
Milanovich coached at Lennox and Chamberlain High Schools in South Dakota as well as South Dakota State University, John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio, and Dickinson State University in North Dakota. He made a positive and lasting impression wherever he went.
This year’s recipient of the Spirit of Sam Award is Dave Krauth, Augustana’s head women’s basketball coach. During the 2009-2010 season, Krauth registered his 400th win with the program and in 21 seasons has compiled a 421-192 record. His Vikings have made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and 43 of his players have earned all-conference recognition.
Proceeds from the tournament support the Sam Milanovich Endowed Scholarships, which are awarded to Augustana student/athletes. The tournament format is Texas Scramble and includes a putting contest, raffle, hole-in-one contests, lunch, and dinner.
