Festival of Tables
Ladies are cordially invited to join us for the Festival of Tables — 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14th at the Center for Western Studies' Fantle Building. For $20, you will be treated to a salad lunch, an entertaining program, and a chance to win prizes. Make new friends, meet old friends, and enjoy creatively decorated tables.
Tania Hicks, wife of Augustana College Writer in Residence Patrick Hicks will give a presentation on her personal journey entitled “From the UK to the US: An Immigrant’s Tale.”
Reserve your tickets by Wednesday, August 4. If you have questions or would like to make a reservation, please call or email Lori Bunjer at 605.274.4008 or email@example.com. All proceeds support the Augustana Center for Western Studies.
What's in store for attendees?
- Tania Hicks’ presentation “From the UK to the US: An Immigrant’s Tale” highlights her movement from European soil to the prairies of America. What does it mean to be an outsider who works her way in? How do accent and national history inform identity? How does one make a foreign land one’s own? Hicks will touch on the immigration story of her son, recently adopted from South Korea, and also her connection with the ‘Lost Boys’ who relocated to the U.S. from their own home in war-torn South Sudan.
- Guests will be given the opportunity to vote on their favorite table, dressed by several of our guests, for the winner of the People’s Choice Award. Each guest will also receive a complimentary raffle ticket for a chance to win great prizes! Additional tickets may be purchased at the event; three tickets are $5.00.
We’re looking for several ladies willing to “host” a table. Table hostesses are asked to provide linens, dinnerware, glassware, silverware, and décor for their table. You may choose to use a set of dishes with sentimental value, a set with a story, or to decorate with a theme. Use your imagination! Celebrate a holiday or your birthday, have a picnic, honor your heritage … it’s your choice. In return, table hostesses will receive a complimentary registration.
