Concert to Feature Percussion, Mallet Ensembles
The Department of Performing and Visual Arts will present "Global Music from America, France and West Africa," a concert by the Percussion and Mallet Ensembles, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, in Kresge Recital Hall.
Tickets are $5 adults and are free for K-12 and Augustana students. Tickets are available at www.augietickets.com.
The ensembles are under the direction of Dr. John C. Pennington, professor of music and percussion instructor. Soloists include Matthew Tims (junior, Worthington, Minn.), Mariel Ridgway (freshman, Brandon, S.D.) and Andrew Paulson (freshman, Jackson, Minn.).
The concert will include Dystopia by Jim Casella, written to imitate a tense, action-packed, horror movie soundtrack within the percussion ensemble setting.
The other major work includes the Concerto No. 2 for Marimba and Percussion Ensemble by David Gillingham.
The concert will conclude with traditional West African music. Interspersed within these three works will be chamber works featuring marimba, guiro, and mallet quartets with a tambourine sextet.
