Northlanders Jazz Band, College/Community Band, Jazz Lab to Perform May 5
The Department of Performing & Visual Arts at Augustana announces a special concert featuring the Northlanders Jazz Band, the Augustana College/Community Band and the Augustana Jazz Lab. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, at the Brandon Valley Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $5 for all adults and free for students K-12.
The Northlanders Jazz Band performed on the main stage at JazzFest 2009 and will return to the festival this summer. Northlanders was founded in 1954 as a student-run organization. In 1965, Dr. Harold Krueger assumed leadership. Since then, the Jazz Band has performed for many campus and community events and has accompanied numerous guest soloists in the annual Jazz on the Upper Great Plains Festival. The current director of Northlanders is Dr. Paul Schilf, now in his 10th year as director of the band. The Augustana Jazz Lab will also perform under the direction of Mark Isackson.
The Augustana College/Community Band was formed 22 years ago as a way of giving community musicians an opportunity to perform at a high level with student musicians. The ensemble has grown steadily and continues to thrill audiences with its enthusiasm and excellence. At this concert, the band will be conducted by Dr. Schilf.
