March 29: WNBA Champ Olympia Scott to Present "I Can, I Must, I Will"
In recognition of Women's History Month, two-time WNBA champion Olympia Scott will present " I Can, I Must, I Will" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, in room 100 of the Gilbert Science Center. The event is free and open to the public.
In college, Scott was a standout at Stanford. She later went on to become the first woman to win two WNBA championships with two different teams; with the Sacramento Monarchs in 2005 and with the Phoenix Mercury in 2007. She won a gold medal for the U.S. National team in the World University Games and at age 16, set a record as the youngest player to compete in an Olympic Festival team sport.
At Stanford, she served as team captain and was named All-Pac-10 Conference, All-American and a finalist for the Naismith Player of the Year award. She led her team to four Pac-10 Conference Championships in back-to-back undefeated conference seasons. She also helped her team to three NCAA Final Four Appearances in her four years as a college player.
