The Augustana Performing & Visual Arts will present a fall concert featuring the Augustana Band, under the direction of Christopher Unger;  the Blue and Gold Band, under the direction of Larry Petersen; and the All-City Middle School Honor Band, under the direction of Jason Rygg, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Washington Pavilion in downtown Sioux Falls.

Tickets range in price from $14-$20 and are free for students K-12 and those with a valid Augie ID. Tickets can also be purchased at the Washington Pavilion. All seats are reserved.

The concert will feature a special appearance by John Mackey, the composer behind well-known selections such as "Sasparilla." A writer with a purpose, Mackey's music runs the gamut of human emotion — from the sublime to the ridiculous. One minute he offers the sound of ripping metal, then suddenly gives you an achingly beautiful melody.

Concert selections will include:

  • "Sasparilla" by John Mackey
  • "Tallahatchie Concerto" featuring Brian Hanegan on saxophone
  • Additional works by Jan Van Der Roost, Howard Hanson and Alfred Reed
