Augustana Dining Room to Feature Global Chef from Germany

The Ordal Dining Room of Morrison Commons will feature German cuisine prepared by Sodexo Global Chef Frank Schönmeyer during lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and again for dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6. The Global Chef Program has brought authentic international cuisine to campus since 2003. These chefs travel thousands of miles and cross multiple time zones to cook especially for students.
About Chef Frank Schönmeyer:
"I started to work in the kitchen when I was almost 20. I loved the special food that was served in big hotels and restaurants. This is the way I wanted to cook for my guests. The starting point for me was a large maritime hotel near where I live. Many events were planned there and I learned a lot very quickly in a short amount of time. During the time I worked in various hotels, I increased my experiences and knowledge base. For example: the Exchange Program with Lufthansa. I went to Hungary for 10 days to learn about their food culture.
"When my children were born, I switched from the hotel world and went into business catering at Sodexo. I first started out at smaller sites for PwC and later moved on to their larger sites as Kitchen Coordinator/Kitchen Director. For many years now, I work at the biggest PwC site in Frankfurt, Germany. Together, with the client, we plan a lot of events but I also organize large events for the rest of Sodexo’s sites in Frankfurt. For example: Christmas parties for over 2000 guests, food fairs, summer parties, sport events, etc.
"I love to work with food, especially fresh seasonal products and to reinvent dishes for various events."
