About Hoodie Allen

Hoodie Allen is a rapper from Long Island, New York. His real-life name is Steven Markowitz; the stage name Hoodie Allen came from his youth nickname “Hoodie” and is a wordplay with actor Woody Allen.

He would gain first success with several mixtapes and EPs such as Leap Year, All American and Crew Cuts, before going on to release his first studio album People Keep Talking in 2014.

His style is a mixture of rap and pop — catchy hooks are often embedded in two or three fast-spoken verses. His lyrics mostly deal with fame, girls and parties, and are very reference-heavy.

UBG Big Events

The Augustana Big Event planning committee, composed of AU students, works each year to bring a big-name musical artist to Augustana’s campus. Past Big Event artists include: Sara Bareilles, Phillip Phillips, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Plain White T's and Parachute, Nico & Vinz, Daya, Jesse McCartney and Parmalee.

The successes of these events stem from the high attendance of both Augustana students and the Sioux Falls community. Big Event strives to uphold Augustana’s mission of fostering community by connecting Augustana students with other students and community members in the greater Sioux Falls area.
